New map - Snake Island

Height map created with HeightMapTweak v0.5
Textures borrowed from filterforge

I mainly created this map as an exercise in using HeightMapTweak. The height map was created entirely using only that application; no GIMP, Photoshop, or other paint tools were used. Actually, that's not entirely true... I used GIMP to create a blank image to start with :)

I also wanted to try a (slightly) new texturing technique. It seems OK to me, although it still doesn't compete with a high-quality L3DT render.

A screenshot of the minimap in the thread is probably the minimum needed to get a lot of people to download your map.

Texture looks good, but I think you need to work a little more on the rock -> grass transitions, as they are a little too abrupt, imo.

same with the grass -> beach, it needs to blend instead of just an immediate change

you can always just go touch things up with the clone brush.


as for the map, seems a bit too asymmetrical, but a 3v3 on it would be interesting to play and watch unfold. sure do like that waterabsorb 8)
