Spring RTS Engine

Is there any possibility that our lobby accounts be linked to our forum accounts? We have people able to quickly create new accounts and passwords or dodge based on IP change.. so does spring not require them to register here and use that account as their lobby account?

For each account they create they would need a new email. Is there no way to set up this sort of thing? I know it is likely to only slow them down a bit but at least it is better then what we have now?

If not is there some other way? #main is filled with assholes and trolls, it is now to the point that I feel that I wanted to to post this thread. Please there has to be a solution, maybe not what I am suggesting but something has to be better.

I'd definitely support a lobby<-> forum account link, but it wouldn't exactly be easy to implement.

It would also complicate backup servers.

Instead email <-> account tie in or something like OpenID might be more useful.

Also Server needs to not allow the same comp to connect twice to it.
So a player cant log in with 2 different accounts simultaneously.

You can't, you get an error.

when the person signs up for the account he/she is sent an activation email which when the person clicks the link on it the perosn will log in to the spring homepage and then the person is allowed to log in to the spring lobby with the same password and username /he/she enterd at the homepage.

I'm sure this has been said before, email requirement for account creation wouldn't stop smurfing - email accounts aren't exactly hard to come by these days. It would just make getting started a bit harder.

A lobby<->forum account link would be nice, but not really worth the trouble imo.

I agree with smoth. As I suggested long ago, an email tie in would at least slow it down.

That said, the server could start handing out short temp bans (an hour or so) to users who log in with different usernames under the same IP with some sort of option for people connected through the same router.

is it really that big of a problem? there have only been like 3 people getting banned and coming back to infinity, if there was a problem with #main it would be the guys that don't get banned.
