Spring RTS Engine

Civilization... I was thinking that a civilization kind of mod could be great especially with our heightfields and different maps.
It could be a cross between turn based and real time or be fully turn based.

The standard response to such suggestions is 'Do it yourself', is it not? I Would suggest the same to you. Good luck, if you attempt it yourself.

This brilliant idea came to me after reading about freeciv's attempts to go 3d.

someone should make a love simulator for spring, we have all these maps, it'll be perfect!

While I am actually tempted to just agree with Rattle and Smoth, and tell you that you're asking for something irrational, it has occurred to me that, aside from a giant amount of content and some sort of working Lua to implement turn-based games of some kind (either one frame, or more likely, a few seconds of realtime followed by a pause)... most of the basic gamecode is actually already in Fibre, and I have some stuff that could be used for this in P.U.R.E. and World Builder, so maybe this isn't completely insane.

So, Gota, all you've gotta do is learn how to animate, model, skin, and code the Lua- simple stuff, we'll see you when you have your first real progress in about two years

Hey, and if the Freeciv folks tried to go 3D, then maybe they have a bunch of content that they never used, or would be interested in helping you get this off the ground... or something.

The thing is, though, that this is not something that you can do well unless you're utterly committed to it and either have a team with the appropriate skills, or you have all of the skills.

Nobody's going to build this for you. If you want it bad enough, you'll figure it out. I think a turn-based game might be a lot of fun and a cool thing to do with Spring, but you need to sit down and learn how to do things- if it was as easy as, "someone set us up the bomb" then I'd have 50 games done by now, instead of limping along towards my second...

Meh, who knows. With his Power of Nagging Requests +3, Gota might be able to drag the FreeCiv people over here to at least take a look and have a discussion about it. I honestly think it's possible to do some sort of TBS game with Spring now. Not easy, but possible, yeah.

If you are gonna post some mod idea, at least post something very unique and good, something that anyone has thinked about or will think about it, and maybe (i said maybe) someone will look and think "hey this idea is very good i need to make a mod like this".

Well civ is very unique and good idea..and how will everyone think of it if someojne doesnt bring it up first?so in a few more weeks when this idea settles down in peopls heads and wont sounds so radicle ill post another mod request ^^.

civilization is not a unique idea, because there is a game like this, and it is called civilization. So the (civilization) spring mod would be exactly another game that exist (civilization) and that would not be a unique thing.
