$5 per DVD on many titles, including some that don't suck!

Holy crap, they made a Viewtiful Joe anime?

It's unfortunate I haven't found time to watch Champloo yet, I've heard it's very good but I don't want to risk that much money on something I might not like. I also just bought the Trigun collector edition (which was cheaper than the regular edition DVDs :|) about a month ago so that's out of the question...

Guess I'll pick up Gungrave. I was actually just thinking about re-watching that.

I see... so if I gave someone my cookies we could theoretically share the same session?

Smoth I feel so close to you.....

If you don't double-post in Off Topic, you're not a real man.

Right Stuf is a great site, anyone that has any interest in anime should sign up for the newsletter. All they ever send you are alerts for weekly specials, and the weekly specials are always something like 40% off for an entire genre or a specific publisher's entire collection. Last week I got 5 discs of Death Note for the cost of 2 had I bought them locally.

Ya, when I went there the address was different, so caydr's probably too stupid to know how to use copy paste :P

On an entirely different note... I really don't get how they can charge what they do for these anime series. Even at 5 dollars for a disk with 75 mins of content... Thats a bigger cost than you'd pay to buy most american DVD films when they hit the bargin bin. The original price of most of these disks is like 30 dollars too! For 75 mins of content, that's OBCENE. 3 episodes of some show that produces an episode a week is worth more than a full budget film that has 2 years of work behind it from alot bigger team? People wonder why anime is pirated so much and isn't more popular to own... the pricing is way too high for it to catch on.

Yeah and it lost a lot of the win. Plus the japanese voice actors just feel wrong if you're used to the original ones (the VJ game was voiced in English even in the japanese version).

Though I guess I could continue playing Gungrave Overdose a bit, the game cost 15 Euros right off the bat.

Yeah anime is too expensive, but if you wait for the compilation you can get a fair price. For instance, I got the whole Trigun series for $50.

I think the anime industry and the game industry are closely-aligned in their thinking about consumers. They think, "not enough people are buying, so we have to charge more". Then their sales shrink again. So they say, "Not enough people are buying, we have to charge more". Then their sales shrink again. So they say....

and it goes on. The american anime industry however started out as a niche, so they automatically felt they had to charge way too much since their sales are measured in the thousands, not the millions like with games. Fortunately anime seems to be slowly getting more popular despite the obscene pricing, so maybe the increased competition will bring the prices down to better levels by the time we die.
