Scambaiting is something that I've been doing for some time now. It's very fun, allows you creativity, and helps fight against a crime that drains billions of dollars annually from victims across the world.
The basic idea: find a scammer (any scammer can do). Create an account that does not use your personal details. Write back and string him along as long as possible. There are always problems and the problems are always the scammer's fault.
Advanced modalities ("modalities" is a word that scammers are fond of, and hence has become used in the baiting community) include having the scammers fill out fake forms, take photos of themselves, produce and mail artwork (wood carvings are popular), and "go on safari" which involves getting the scammer to travel somewhere, preferably across an international border.
The point is to drain their time and resources and have them concentrate on you rather than on an actual victim.
