Spring RTS Engine

It has been suggested that we should have just the small installer, plus a separate maps pack. We all keep saying "somebody do a maps poll", so here I am doing it.

I propose that the size of the maps included is taken into account. Peewee bloodbowl, Great Divide 2 and Cross Paths for example are all under 1MB IIRC, so we may as well include them even if not that popular.

Therefore I think we should divide the number of votes for each map by its file size, and then rank the maps that way.

PS I know I've missed a lot of maps, but there's a limit on the number of poll options - I just had to delete a load of them before it would let me post!

PPS I've put this on the Gen Disc forum because it's 1. about what to put into a release, NOT about the maps themselves 2. we need as many votes as poss to make this sensible and this board has more traffic

I think perhaps a multiple selection poll would have been better; as we are making a pack, not picking the best map.

I voted Core Prime, although it was tough between Lava & two hills.

I think that the proper criteria for voting is that the map not only offers good gameplay, but also shows off what spring can do the best. Hence intensely atmospheric maps like Lava & Two hills are very good.

Green isles for sure. Looks great and isn't that big. Gameplay is well balanced as well.

The poll doesn't even include all the maps that were out when the poll was made :/

But Core Prime/Azure Rampart would be nice for the metal map aspect of it (good for newbies that way too). But I would like to see some smaller maps included.

=) Of course if anybody wants to do a poll of the missing maps, that'd be grand - any body can run a poll!
