Carried units that don't collide with their transport

Seems silly, but this actually happens. Take, for example, the Warhammer 40K 'Gorgon' transport, which is essentially a giant landing craft out off the WWII D-day campaign but with treads and lots of guns. The infantry it carries can be seen within, which requires that the units it picks up are held within the model.
Unfortunately, said units seem to be still colliding with the transport, the upshot of which is that, when fully loaded (60 infantry), the damn thing can barely move.
I honestly can't see why transported units collide with their transports. It messes up any loading animations, especially if the transported units are visibly attached to the transport where they're definitely going to have collision issues. It could be one of the reasons air transports are so twitchy.
Basically, can collisions between transport and transportee be disabled? I don't think this even needs a tag: there's no real reason why they'd need to collide in the first place, surely?
