Regarding direct lobby downloads:

Go ahead and point them towards:

Evolutionrts.info/maps

I really don't care. I've got 5 terrabytes worth of bandwidth per month and the server is paid up till february of next year so seriously... Bring it on. There is no way for me personally to use up that much bandwidth per month on my own, and I'd like to see it not wasted. Additionally the server is generally quite fast with speeds ranging from 3mbit to 6-7mbit.

So, whoever worked on tasclient, aflobby (AF), and springlobby, set it up. It's not hurting me any, and I'd like to see the server put to a good use.

We at springlobby are (read BrainDamage is) working on implementing an integrated client for Licho's tracker. Since you're already providing a http seed for that our users will benefit from your bandwidth that way.

yeah using licho's system is the best to be sure it won't be down in 2monthes or 1year. A system where all mirrors and peers are connected is the best

Is your server a DreamHost? How much do you pay per month?

yes and $120 per year. As previously stated, it is paid up through feburary of '09.

So wait, the CA downloader is not being included with Spring install? No? Well you could have direct lobby downloads and use both, which makes it super simple for new users.

All of you have been clamoring for direct lobby downloads since FU shot craps. Here it is handed to you on a silver platter and you turn it down?

Strange world.

From what I have heard of Dreamhost, their offers are marketing tricks at best. I expect they will cancel your account or place serious throttles on you (good luck using 5TB if you are limited to 50KB/s) if you continuously use large ammounts of traffic.

mmmh cadownloader could become spring downloader and be bundled with the lobby to download automaticaly from peers and http

Now that would be an excellent idea.

Thats the plan, but cadownloader isnt finished yet (still having some crashes). I want to finish/test properly first before it becomes spring downloader.

The CADownloader is already in the SVN installer as a part of CA, but if the utility is made general (i.e. CA specific stuff only on when the mod is installed) it could be included generally.

Then I will sue them. I read the TOS / agreement thing thuroughly, there is nothing in there to cover their asses.

At some point iamacup bought dedicated Dreamhost servers.

Oddly enough trademark complains my site is slower than yours forb despite them using the same host and probably residing on the same server.

On a side note forb, I may need your input on lobby development about a few things you talked about if you'd like to pm me sometime.

NOiZE: TOS seems a bit strict, since it explicitly disallows use as mirror / filedump.
Examples of unacceptable material on all Shared and Reseller servers include:

IRC Bots, Proxy Scripts / Anonymizers, Pirated Software / Warez, image, filedump, mirror, or banner-ad services (similar to rapidshare, photobucket, or commercial banner ad rotation), topsites, [...]

They can cancel you immeditately for item number 6 of their ToS, since you are not using Spring files as part of a website but more as a "data backup or archiving service". I have also heard of them canceling people under item number 7, saying they consumed too many CPU resources even when serving static files. The contract also says they can terminate you without any cause if they give you 30 days written notice. There is absolutely no way they can allow someone to serve 5TB of data/mo for $10 without taking a huge loss and they will take actions to maintain their margins.

Tbh I really don't see it happening, however even so, with the ca downloader mixing http with torrent, prolly not a big deal. I just was trying to say in this thread that if you wanted to make the lobby dl maps auto, then do it. I don't care.

Even if there were 20 gb of downloads per day, I would still only be using 10% of my total alloted bandwidth (unless I really screwed up some math).

Alternatively, if I don't use it for some purpose such as this, then what's the point of me paying for a massive server that i don't need? I can get 5 gigs of space from insanegb which is a billion times more than I would ever need just for evolution.

I would rather that the server be actually used for something. I have issues paying for something and then never using it.

$10/mo isn't that much money for webhosting.

then why doesn't everyone here have one?
