Spring causes system to hang

Hi, I'm trying to get spring to work on my linux machine, and it runs fine for 1-2 minutes, but then it makes the whole system hang and I have to do a hard restart.

Looking at the CPU usage shows that at the point where it hangs, the amount of CPU used by spring jumps to 100%, but then everything stops updating.

I'm using a 2.2 GHz Pentium 4 CPU running linux 2.6.22-gentoo-r5 (gentoo kernel). Spring was installed via the spring overlay. It works fine when I run it from windows on the same machine.

Does anyone have an idea as to what could cause this?

EDIT: It also sometimes just causes the video output to completely die forcing a hard restart as well.

What video card/drivers do you have ?

Have you run other intensive 3d applications under linux ?

Can you switch to text terminal (control-alt-f1 for example, control-alt-f7 will switch you back to graphical)

(I also have spring from spring overlay, on an nvidia card and it works without problems)

It works now. I think it was a problem with my glx (glxgears caused an identical problem). I reinstalled the relevant packages and it works.

Which packages? I've had the same problem.
I always do ctrl-alt-printscreen reisub. This unmounts all filesystems safley, and then I do a hard reset.
