Radar Forgetfulness

Is it possible to make weapons which were trained to target a specific unit, forget what it was shooting at once the target has disappeared out of radar sight / cloaks ?
It seems that when a unit is targeted manually, the weapon will keep track of that specific unit even once it has entered a jamming field, or left radar visibility range.
This can be particularly frustrating if your commander is targeted by the enemy, and you remove him from the weapon's range and radar visibility, only to have it instantly fire on you again as soon as you've entered back into the weapon's range, regardless of whether or not radar has spotted you.
Its particularly brutal with longer range weapons such as LRPC (Bertha | Intimidator), and makes jamming useless once a unit has been targeted the enemy unit can continue firing without any further enemy scouting required to respot that unit.

As far as I can remember it keeps tracking it for a certain amount of time, then drops it. Once it's out of radar and sight range it's just meant to target as though the unit had continued on the same movement vector, though.
At least, that was my understanding due to a bug fix that was made a while ago for this problem.
Although... I don't know if that did anything about radar jammers. There might be issues with that.

It collects the unique genetic identity of the unit and uses a special non-existent tracking device that often fails.

I think it is a bug, like then in splinter cell ( a spy game) one guy spots you and warns the others and then you kill him but it doesnt matters since even if you hide in the dark again everone will know exactly where you are until things calm down again...

In OTA when you saw an enemy com you targetted it with 3 or so spread out MT, you could then triangulate his position for the rest of the game

Still only need 2.
They aren't triangulating by using distance, they're 2 lines.
Although... if the Commander was along the line that linked the 2 turrets then you'd need a third off the line, wouldn't you?

Or you get an extra because missile towers have roughly 7 HP.

How likely is it that the guy would be exactly in a line with your defenses?

If he's moving he could be flanking you or something stupid, I don't know. It would depend on the map and stuff.
And he wouldn't need to be exactly inline, just close enough that you couldn't make use of the difference (I suppose, technically, you could use some LUA or something to take the info from the 2 turrets to find the point though, in which case there'd be less of an issue).
