we need a new "reputation" measure besides "rank"

we all hate these behaviors: spamming in the lobby, rage quitting the game, strange religion over some specific mod and diminishing other mods, bad mouthing to the new comers, etc.
and the COST are huge: the moderators wastes their time over some immature ppls, new comers could be easily threated by this hostile enviroment, and most important: the community growing could be severely slowed down by this endless nightmares.
so i propose this new measure of "reputation": with behaviors mentioned above, ppls loses their reputation; if ppls contribute source code, map, mod, or any other things considered honorable, ppls would be rewarded and they have more points in "reputation".
not only this will encourage development in Spring project, and also strong signals will be sent to new comers and current ppls, we values your behaviors and contributions as well as your battle skills.

Unless you're able to code an AI that would distinguish good/bad behavior, I don't see how this would be a less of a waste of time for moderators. In fact, I think it would mean more time wasting.

yeah, I think moving work from moderators to coders is a dumb idea.
plus the cost of a moderator is 0, they don't do anything useful while not moderating so it doesn't matter at all if they spend 10 seconds banning someone for a day.
and a bad reputation doesn't stop anyone, just look at sleska.

correct me if i'm wrong,You are concerned with programmability issues: how to automate all these "craps" without introducing more troubles.
i know my ideas could be a long shot. but think over the windows vista story: microsoft fires all testers who couldn't program and write unit test, and probably when vista is shipped, all the unit test are passed. but the whole product is disaster, many "usability" issues are
surfacing above. all these issues are not detectable by any of millions of unit tests.
here is some of my preliminary ideas.
first, "reputation" doesn't necessarily to become quantitative to the point by point level.
second, "reputation" could be distributed recorded between ppls other than a central style like "rank".
third, maps or mods that played more often, would lead to reward to the creators.
*four, spamming could be easily detected, and we could have a new filter of reputation in the lobby client.* --added

thats crap, how would rewarding mappers get rid of spammers? or why reward mappers who are spammers just because they map?
none of this would solve any of the problems, its just awful.

i see your frustration over some specific hard-to-solve issues.
i know i could probably not solve anything, only causing more pressure to the maintainers.
only because it's hard and IMPORTANT, it should be discussed and discussed and discussed.

I'm not frustrated, I'm just vexed as to why you think this is a good idea at all.

yes, i have some lousy concrete ideas that not thought through, and i said "preliminary".
but the general idea is not far from the right path, it's not a cure, and it's more like an encouragement of good style. It makes ppl realize but not to be lectured.
As for programmers on Spring, I believe Lua or Ruby or Python or any other programming languages all do have some kind of recommended programming style. It's not enforced, but if you want to cooperate with others, you'd better respect that.
the motivation of "reputation" system is alike, it just makes these favorable styles explicit.

i cant even post a sane reply to your proposals.
its not going to work
nobody wants to do it, not even you.
if you would want it to be done, you'd need to do it yourself but i think im 99% correct when i say that you wont do it
third, maps or mods that played more often, would lead to reward to the creators.
Hooray for honourable BA devs who donate thousands of lines of code for spring to use every day, while those devious scumbags like KDR, zwzsg do nothing all day, with their stupid fibres and Kernel panics and new features, may they burn in hell.
third, maps or mods that played more often, would lead to reward to the creators.
hooray for honourable speedmetal and and boo hiss for people like forboding and picassoCT whose maps which are spawns of satan and must be purged by our honourable greenfields creators
*four, spamming could be easily detected, and we could have a new filter of reputation in the lobby client.* --added
chanserv already does this, and moderators are there for a purpose, no need to have a honour system zZz
i know my ideas could be a long shot. but think over the windows vista story
so basically you mean that you would do jack shit and have people hate you for the next 5 years?
but the general idea is not far from the right path, it's not a cure, and it's more like an encouragement of good style. It makes ppl realize but not to be lectured.
go back to your polis and make a speech in the town centre about the filosophical points of life and morales.
For programmers for Spring, I believe Lua or Ruby or Python or any other programming languages all do have some recommending programming style. It's not enforced, but if you want to cooperate with others, you'd better respect that.
theyre not going to do it, its your idea, and its up to you to do it, others can help you on the way though, but not do work just because you want them to.

@why:
In the perfect world, this is a good system. In the real world, It is abused somewhat easily.

I dont get it....
Dont we all earn reputation by what we do? We dont need some shittie software to keep track of it. Why you wanna put rep into numbers. We all know who we hate or love

i dont think its good idea to give reputation of the work you made for spring, it doesnt mean you arent a bitch in the game.

unless they just renames their accounts every two weeks.
in my spring lifetime i havent really noticed much of problems, maybe because i dont play so seriously...

Um, would allowing users to give each other positive / negative votes, and change them later if people's behavior improved, not be a good solution to this? I mean... how hard is it to write code that says, "If 100+ people have you on their Hate List, you get autobanned for 3 days"... that'd take care of a lot of retardation, because griefers would get knocked out by the very people they're pissing off.
Ok, in theory, some large, giant organized clan or whatever could use this to inflict random terror. In reality, it'd probably provide pretty good automatic protection against griefing, especially in Main, and if moderators could see the stats, they'd have a pretty good tool for knowing who's been naughty lately
