I got 800 pages into it.

Then stopped. I only started cause Bioshock was inspired by it.

In a nutshell, Ayn Rand is pretty much just the public face of economic libertarianism. She didn't invent any of her theories, she poorly defends them, primarily by just attacking opposing view points, and her points are full of logical fallacy. It's like reading a book on the rightful treatment of animals written by Pamela Anderson.

It's good to know about libertarian theory, but Ayn Rand really only gives you half the picture, and alot of propaganda poo as well.
