Dual Core question

I have a Celeron running at 3.2Ghz, if I get a Pentium Dual Core running at 1.6Ghz will it make my system run faster?

For the most part the dual core wont be of much use for spring other than for dumping everything on one core and giving spring sole access to the other.

Your money would be better spent on the cheapest core 2 duo you can get

I'm talking about for overall gaming, I can run spring fine.

For any gaming, Core Duo or Core 2 Duo is a better investment.

core 2 duos are really good value for money,, get one of them if you can afford (they arnt even that expensive...)

The Q6600 isnt that bad of a price either. I think it is the same price as one of the upper end dual core cpus. Just got mine a while ago and you can multitask like crazy and renders in 3d max are noticeably improved.

yup.. im getting a q6600 before the end of the summer :) then ill oc to 3 or 3.2 (the fasted dual core is 3 ghz)

Thats what I plan to do as well eventually. Also the fastest dual core is not worth the extra money. You can actually buy the cheaper model and then overclock it to around 3ghz and beyond. I hear that dual cores overclock very easily and do not heat up as much as a quad core does.

A pentium clocked at 1.6 will run spring like shit, weather you have it dualcore or not. Of course you can over clock it to improve performance... but then we're basically down to how far you get it.

Your celeron is ass too.

If you get a core2duo clocked in the 1.5-2 range and then clock it up somewhere between 2 and 3 then THAT is a highly effective processor. Core2 architecture is roughly twice as effective per clock than Pentium was.

I don't think there was a dual P4, at best it would be two CPUs with hyperthreading (or what ever it's called). Yeah get a C2D or one of AMD's X2s...

The Pentium D is a dual core Pentium.

I know core2 would run better, but I don't have a job because I'm in school.
My Celeron runs spring great

I don't know if I should upgrade to a Pentium dual core now or just skip and wait until FEB to get a core2

I just don't know how much of an increase I will get from a Pentium dual core

Get an AMD dual core, then. They're cheap as hell, and may actually give you improvement over the Celeron outside of the L2 cache.

not really because then hed definately have to switch motherboards.

Whereas he may be lucky enough not to need to change for a core 2 duo

The AMDs are down to $60 for a 1.9 GHz on Newegg, while the cheapest Pentium D is around $90, and the most expensive Pentium D is still horrid.

I just brought a new motherboard(Biostar),video card(8500GT), and ram (1GB)

I gave not opened any of it yet, so I'll check the AMD

uh oh.. biostar :S..
anyway. i would of gone for a 7600/7800 instead of an 8500, but thats me.. and because ram is so cheap , go for 2 gb

So 7600/7800 is better then the 8500
Thanks I've been asking about this
Biostar makes good motherboard

the 7600/7800 will be better for spring , not necessarily for other games.. and biostar makes bad motherboard :)
