I don't make the lobby ask Satirk.

Ivory, I'm thinking of calling them games in the installer because some nubs might not know what a mod is, and I want it to be clear that these are completely different games (maybe not in the case of the TA mods, but the others certainly).

think referring to "mods" as "games" (and Spring as "engine" or something) would make Spring more user friendly. is not obvious to some how important a "mod" is (!)
Ivory was pointing out that the term "game" for BA is incorrect, due to BA being a modification of TA content.

This is a discussion we have had a few times. If it derives from content not produced within the community directly - sounds, textures, models - it is a modification. Otherwise, we should simply call them games, fan-games and experimental games.

Except for Epic Legions, which has to be called a mod for legal reasons...

Correction, Epic Legions has to be referred to as a "Total Conversion" which we can pose as a sub-category of fan-games.

I think everything should be called either mods or games as much as you can - making differences just confuses thing imo.

I'd be for games or gamemodes as the name, "mod" suggests it's an optional addon and there's a base game.

If a game derives from another game it is a mod, else it is a game or type of game.

XTA CA/BA/AA/etc are all mods because they do not sit at the top of their family hierarchy, only original Total Annihilation and its expansion packs can lay claim to that title.

I think this comment is a valid addition to the thread and am preserving it. Though I'm more in the "WHAT HAVE YOU UNLEASHED!?" category.

And I think TA mods should be called mods or 'TA mods', TA total conversions should be games, and pretty much anything else is a game.

Oh geez, this again.

"Mod" describes the way in which the user obtains, installs, and interacts with the content better than "game" does, therefore they should be called "mods".

Usually mods are optional because they only change the base game. Try using Spring without a mod.

This one is good since if your offended by "modification" you can just think "mod" = module instead and be happy.
