Okay... I know that I'm not supposed to post this kind of junk... so I won't... but if you happen to want to sign up for a free site online where you earn points towards free stuff but giving out personal information, opening yourself up for telemarketers or installing spyware on your computer... PM me for details...
Here is a picture of a toaster:

If I want to open myself to telemarketers or install spyware on my computer, PM you?
Uh, I can do both of those things quite well on my own...

What kind of a forum moderator says he knows what he's doing is wrong but does it anyway?

The kind that takes "Off Topic" seriously.

I'm assuming "sleep deprivation induced insanity" over retardation... but either way.

Simple Single long line of text.

Yes. You "could", but then I wouldn't get the aforementioned "Referral Bonus!!"

How is this worse then creating a forum topic to post a funny image macro or You Tube Video?

Because you're looking to gain a referral bonus. You even say at the start you know you're not supposed to post this kind of junk but you do anyway. You don't even give a link or say what this bonus is for or anything.

Ah, well. There is the "me gaining" thing I suppose.
I expressly didn't post a link to the program in question because that would breach policy in my understanding of it. This was all an exercise in irony.
My Logic Was:
1) oooh, I have found an excellent opportunity to get myself free Wii points
2) Man, I would have to sign up for a lot of crap to get my free Wii points
3) Oh look, a referral program will get me 10% of anything people I sign up for this service... too bad I'd get banned from any forums I posted this in
4) Hey wait a minute... I could NOT post it, but tell people just enough about it to make it seem like I'm trying to be funny.
And, as I mentioned... It was rather late and my brain was poisoned with too much caffeine.
Anyways... page actually promises no SPYWARE... though there is a bit of adware and it's all optional... the telemarketing is actually telephone surveys and there are a number of programs that earn points without risking anything more then junk mail.

I'm locking this. Sinbad, I don't allow other users to advertise without clearing it first, we shouldn't be making exceptions for moderators.
