Ok, so I acquired a used MBO that is from an old acquaintance.
it had a bad secondary ide

so I was forced to LOL GASP upgrade my 80gb ide to a 300gb+ sata drive for my windows drive.

Not a bad thing considering a sata drive will make everything that I do as far as 'shop, bryce and video work all faster.

Right now I am formating it. So hopefully by sunday I will be off this pile of crap dell and back on my pc.

wow this is like smoths personal blog.

I dont know if XP has this but in Vista if you goto the drives properties in device manager you can turn on something called advanced performance which speeds it up.

Luckily Vista activates itself once its installed and connected to the net, it just pops up a balloon saying you've activated followed by a windows update check.

I've only ever had to manually activate once for XP, for which I had a machine on the other end and had to type in lots of 56 digit numbers.

He said 8 activations. XP autoactivates (or activates at the push of a button) too as long as you haven't activated more than a certain number of times. After a few times you can no longer do that via internet and have to use the phone.

I have an MSDNAA version, NO activation for me.
