Best TA/Spring mod for OTA players/noobs?

Hey,
a bunch of my friends want to try out Spring. They're all OTA fans. What mod should they try, where the learning-curve would be lightest? I know BOTA, but it's not even on Unknown-Files.net, so I doubt it even works with the newest version of Spring. Is there one that you guys can recommend?
Otherwise, I'm gonna give up and we'll all just play KP. At least I can understand KP.

XTA was easy for me to learn. My two cents worth

Try Funta.

They're all the same in a simple basis,
Step 1 - Build base
Step 2 - Expand
Step 3 - Eliminate the other team
RTS requires logic, not skill. :]

wc3 requires FPS like gamer reflexes and mouse clicking if u know the build order its all about speed
TA is not which is why i prefer it atm
most played ta mod out there is BA

If you seriously want to play the game a lot, play BA and XTA. There arent any other alternatives, thats where all the games are. They're both well balanced, tight mods that play well. XTA is probably a bit easier to learn and more forgiving, but BA has a larger community (and probably more noobs to bash your head against).
But, if you wanted that answer, im sure you wouldnt have asked.
If you want to just play among yourselves and want something like OTA, then play
http://www.unknown-files.net/spring/269 ... Classic TA.

Try NOTA, as well.
It's a bit nonstandard, but it also plays slowish, which many new players like, as it allows for some exploring of the tech trees. I also like it because it removes much of the twitchy counterstrike wc3 playstyle that is neccisary in some mods, and which I personally dislike in an RTS.
Also, you were planning on playing KP, so I doubt if standardness is really a concern

.
Also, NOTA is epic and an awesome mod. To-scale battleships ftw.
Also huge naval assaults on shorelines.
And lots of units in assaults.
And stuff.
Play it on a map with a large ocean separating the players, then you get an awesome WW2 looking game.

I find it amusing that the OP "Best TA/Spring mod for OTA players" got a reply recommending a mod called "Not OTA" :)
For all its worth, i found the transition from OTA to BA quite easy, because all in all its the same basic game. it helps if you guys played OTA with all the mods and addons.

Try BA.

We're pretty much settled on BA. What maps go well with BA's longer range? I'm worried about it playing havoc with the maps I'm used to on BA.

What what? How are the maps you're used to on BA any different than the maps you intend to play on BA? What longer range?

typo, he means TA [OTA], which has significantly shorter weapons ranges vs BA (all conjectural, i cant read minds)

O_o
Quite the brain-O there. My understanding is that BOTA has longer ranges than BA, doesn't it? I haven't tried it yet.
What I mean to say is that, do the same maps that work well with BA (Altored_Divide, DeltaSiege, Comet Catcher, GoW variants, etc.) work just as well with BOTA? If not, should I be looking at other BOTA maps?

No idea, dont honestly know anyone who plays BOTA. Either way the project isnt maintained AFAIK, the devs moved on to NOTA.
I know a lot of people here think BOTA is actually Basically OTA due to its name. But its really... not. If you want purity you're better off with Classic TA.

BOTA is fun, but... well, if you want OTA, I'd say you're setting your sights pretty low.
