Widget distribution and modification

There's a couple widgets I'd like to include with the next version of AA. I've contacted the author twice via PM but have got no response. Are these just "here, take em, do with them with you want"? I'm obviously willing to give credit, etc... The author, JK, doesn't appear to have said what his feelings on distribution and modification are... so what should I do?

There's no license listed at the top of the widget?

Top of widget... you mean in the code? I'll check... That's probably what it is. I keep on forgetting LUA is plain text...

If it says GPL you don't have to ask.

You do, however, need to be aware of the implications of the license. If you release a package which is dependent upon GPL licensed content or data, the package must be GPL-compliant.

That is friggin stupid.
I thought it was if it's GPL, you need to give them the same rights as you had with only what is GPL. AA will never be GPL, unless OTA gets Open-Source.

That depends on the interpretation of the GPL you use, it's the reason we had so many long debates over the GPL already.

Go.

I gave a final explanation last month. I will merely copy paste it in all further discussions unless somebody manages to make a compelling opposing argument. In that case, I'll have to revise it.

A random-ass gaming forum in the middle of the web (like this one) is a shitty place to get serious answers concerning interpretation, consequences, and overall usage of one of the most important licenses on the modern web.
Get a lawyer, or at least go to the GPL mailing list, if you want to be many times more certain about your content licensing. Otherwise it turns into intellectual mastrubation.

Jerk off using ONLY THE POWER OF YOUR MIND!
What you've never heard the term?

It's intellectual masturbation no matter who is speaking about it and in what context. That is the basic driving force behind argumentation and reasoned disagreement, as you can observe.

Now you're old and full of hate, you need a pill to masturbate!
