Anyone know a good LCD monitor that had DVI and VGA sockets? (under £100 if possible!)

I have an Acer 22" AL2015W and its not the best, its not quite as tiltable a I'd like and it has a faint electric hum when turned off, though that might just be because its in my room and I'm sensitive to that. So don't get it or any of its predecessors.

That i may go for as it supports both VGA and DVI.

Any bog standard nvidia card will let you shove a thing on the outputs to switch them from DVI to VGA or vice versa so it doesn't really matter as much.

I could hear the status diode blinking on my old monitor, seriously. I always turn power off completely by switching the socket outlet off.

For under 100 pound, no idea. Mine's about 170 pound and I can recommend it (20" Samsung 206BW).

Yah I turn mine fof at the socket too, saves power too, as PCs use 5 watts just by being plugged in wether they're on or off.

got a 19" viewsonic atm... bit old now, will get a nice samsung 22 or 24" syncmaster (244t?) when i upgrade comp christmas / early next year

So you can have an old nvidia card with a cable from vga to dvi??

Lose quality over what? So it's worse than VGA? Or you mean you don't get DVI quality (so you get VGA, which i knew would happen anyway since the cards not DVI).

Even so with monitors that allow both connections, i don't need to worry.

Well that was my point, it's not loosing quality since i'm using a VGA card, it's using VGA, nothing is lost, infact somethings gained, the ability to use a VGA card with a DVI monitor till i get a new card. But that doesn't matter since the monitor i posted allows both

I think the point is that DVI connectors allow more data to be sent to the monitor at a faster rate with far less corruption in a more modern manner.

Thus its the same thing as the old axial cables versus scart plugs, they transmit the same stuff only scart plugs do it so much better.

Having said that nvidia has supported DVI since the FX series cards at the very least. Although some cards have VGA ports they're also DVI ports with the wrong connector arrangement, hence the simple adapter. So always use DVI were possible.

That and Im nto sure but there are upper end resolutions VGA cables just cant handle, although they're not commonplace.

Of course if you can get HDMI in future do that instead.
