Spread the good word

As many of you may know, the number of players playing Spring has plunged starting a few months ago. Just last week, the number of players during the peak hours on weekdays was about 200-225, now it no longer passes the 200 player mark.
With the release of games like World in Conflict and Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance, The situation is only going to get worse. We need to take action or Spring may be lost forever.
I propose that we start mass promotion now and tell the rest of the RTS community about Spring. We must send out E-mails, advertise on websites, tell our friends.
Even if we fail, at least we will not have gone down without a fight.

School is eating peoples' time, it's quite simple. Spring hit record highs this summer.

BS.

Last summer had way more people (upwards of 300) way more regularly than this time round. I've noticed the trend. The spring player base is getting smaller and smaller, very gradually. Many of the players I used to enjoy playing with have left and others still idle in the lobby but DONT ACTUALLY EVER PLAY ANY GAMES.

Its pretty much a downhill spiral - as less games are hosted, people tend to leave more often and play less. A lot of members of this community log on for a few minutes to check if there are any games, and if there ain't, they'll leave instead of waiting. You can't expect people to sit around for upwards of 30 mins and often longer waiting for a game that they can join.

Notably the number of team games being hosted has declined a lot and it seems theres nobody to fill the place.

The best thing I can suggest right now is for MORE PEOPLE TO HOST GAMES. If you can't host, spend some time to fix your router/ports etc and then start hosting games. If there are games available, people join them instead of leaving after logging on for 5 mins or less.

Regardless, has no impact on me anymore considering I am banned from the lobby now:/

It is doubtful that you will remain banned for long, firstly, and secondly - I'm working on spreading the good word.

I am hoping to have an early promo vid done at some point soonish for PURE, might be worth something, now that there's enough game to show a bit...

Yeah... I stopped playing for the most part beyond testing out new maps and mods and such... But then again I haven't played many games at all recently.

Meanwhile I've noticed a significant drop in participation on many of the sites I frequent so I'm assuming that might be related.

Ubuntu is our best hope.

I'm semi-serious. I'll get back to work on making packages now :)

Just fix the crashing problems, and people might stay at spring.

Just to let you know, there are .debs for 0.75b2 that yoko made, its just hard to find them :p

http://tuzakey.com/~scott/spring/

Ubuntu and linux in general is spring's best chance. We also need better offical support for linux in the wiki and download page.

What Spring really needs is a tutorial, a campaining and more complete basic package.

Release of SupCom was a missed opportunity to attract new players. It created a big craze for this kind of game and Spring should have come as a free and cpu-friendly alternative. I'm sure many people downloaded spring at that time but were disapointed by what they got. You propably don't realize it but the basic Spring package sucks. Two included maps are bad and ugly. Controlls are confusing. You can build 100+ of units and have no idea what they do. SpringSP isn't included. If you want to play online you need to download BA and some maps. If you managed to get through all this and finally get online you're welcomed by a newbie-hating community (most hosted games are team based and your allies aren't exactly forgiving).

It's hard to start with Spring. I know it. I first downloaded spring two years ago but deleted it very soon. I returned to it after seeing a video on youtube showing what spring really is like.

Trailer done! Uploaded to youtube - http://youtube.com/watch?v=MpKqQxTURik
Uploaded to Gametrailers for better quality, but is still compressing!

PS. 3 Minutes to get with the music(should have just added another song) so everything is quick in it and I didn't put in it all I wanted!

lol the ending :D

Good vid anyways, though there were some boring parts at the start mostly... show more about that big nuke explosion, and other cool stuff, show more action!

Also show more different mods, like E&E etc...

Oh yeah, and that music fitted good.
