commander ends ruins teamgames when half the frontline combusts because you had a stupid noob on your team, but im so damn sick of people just making a lab and combombing, although in sure "ith a legitimath thratergy"
would it be possible to replace it or add a further option to force spectate upon commander death, effectively leaving nobody in control of your units so someone has to .take them. this way, lamers just get hoofed out the game once they combomb, but without leaving the whole team crippled

I'd say the rule should be what was proposed before: Game ends when all team coms are dead. Of course that could be kept separate from other modes.

I'm all for ivory_king idea.
When you loose your commander, you spectate and you're units stay on the battlefield.
If all the players of a team are spectating (no more commander), they loose.

Linage is supposed to be comm ends the fair way. IE, all your units blow up. If anything linage is more strict than normal comm ends. Personally I think linage should take the place of the current comm ends system, and if a third system is kept it should be the system described here. SpecNoComm players.

You can probably make a LuaRule for your mod...

But then your stuck with full blown mod mutator, and to switch to a different mode you have to rehost.

If I recall correctly LuaRules can get input from the startscript (don't ask me how though) so the gadget could run always and just do nothing if a certain parameter has not been set in the startscript.
Would still need lobby client/server support of course.

whats LUA got to do with it? its an option that would be bolted into the battle lobby like the other commander options

You know, why don't we just add these separate ideas as options and allow hosts to make their own gametypes?

Lua could implement these exact rules without any engine canges. The problem is that you cannot send settings from the lobby to Lua yet (mostly the lobby's fault).
