How to change models in a mod?

Mod A has cool models I like
Mod B has better gameplay
how do I take models from Mod A, and place them in Mod B?

Spring checksums won't allow easy model customization the same way it would have been allowed in most FPS games. Basically, the only way to do this is create an entirely new mod and get people to play with you.
