Huge maps

I am looking for big big maps. Is there a limit to the maximum size in spring? Are there possible limitations on AIs, so they might not be able to handle vast maps?

There are 814 maps at unknown-files at the moment. Is that the entire stock or are there other resources?

And how can I find potentially large maps? Can you recommend some? Which are the largest you know of? I am looking for maps like Adamantine Mountain and Island Paradise - just five to ten times the size.

Thanks for your suggestions. :-)

Quoing 3rd party OTA maps isnt that good an idea as very few people here know what they are.

If you have an ATI card then the biggest map you can play without problems is 28x28. 32x32 maps will cause issues on the vast majority fo ATI cards as they dont support big enough shadowmaps unless your on a high end ATI card.

Almost all Nvidia cards can go right upto the 64x64 upper limit without issues save slowdown.

With regards to the sm3 format, only the available ram space limits the map size. Block wars is one of the biggest released maps in sm3, and one of the biggest maps in spring. Again, ATI users may have issues with sm3 maps, and people with <1GB ram shouldnt play the biggest version of blockwars.

2GB of ram will get you upto 64x64 maps. 128x128 maps dont fit in 2GB ram.

Wow, just 4MB in size and one of the biggest maps. :-)
Since the term sm3 is not explained in the FAQ, what is sm3? And how do I get the maps running, since just putting the contents (with subfolders) into maps doesn't work?

How long would it take a regular map builder to produce a simple multiplication of say Islands Paradise? Is it complicated to do?

just rename the zip to an sdz...tasclient hates it of course but spring will run it fine.
