8800 class gpus, the dynamic water bug, and some thoughts

Testing dynamic water yesterday I noticed something:

The lines going to the corner are all coming from were the ground meets the water, and theyre reflections in the water stretched to the corner. They flicker because of the refraction.

However they dissapear when theres no ground on the screen. Zoom into a large stripe of the artefacts and once the grounds not visible they dissapear, and dynamic water works as it should.

On a map with no land and just water, dynamic water will work perfectly for 8800 users.

ok, thanks for the info

hmm, so all nvidia 8x00 cards are affected after all?
any info on the source of this problem yet? driver, spring, or maybe even the G8x hardware itself?

also what about the ATI counterparts?

ATI can't and never have run dynamic water due to their driver's the poor opengl support.

The dynamic water also makes use fo nvidia specific functions.

However if they were replaced with openGL generic versions ATI cards would still need the extra OGL support theyre direly lacking.
