Rain... anyone know enough LUA to do it?

To save resing an old thread and to make this more prominent...

Can anybody create a rain shader in LUA? Please?

trepan has allready created a grovy snow shader thing in LUA, however, nothing I can do with it would be able to generate passable rain. It could easily be adjusted however by someone that understands how to program LUA... its just I'm not that person.

Does anyone feel up to using it? It will definatly be used if you do, and would let use do other cool stuff liek acid rain on acid worlds...

Anyway heres a link to the snow one:
http://spring.clan-sy.com/phpbb/viewtop ... 4&start=40

If no one wants to do it then I'll just have to leave it out...

It requires as much knowledge of GL and GLSL
shaders as it does of lua and the Spring lua interface.

Does that mean your the only one that can pull it off?? :( I didn't want to be stuck badgering you cause you have more important stuff to do!

Maybe if you offer up a bribe of your super sekrit tree map to test it on (cause we all know thats what you want it for) another capable person, or at least close to capable and thus able to quickly learn, will wiggle out of the woodwork.

No, I don't mean that I'm the only one that can pull it off.
I was clarifying the requirements for anyone who wanted
to take a crack at it. The GL and GLSL specs are free to
download at opengl.org ;-)

I'd suggest looking at the snow thing if it was released. Rain isn't much different.

imo your tree map wouldnt benefit from rain and it could be argued that the rain would be a gimmick. Great for screenshots, bad for gameplay.

I think trees that blow in the wind and other movement effects in the forest trees would be much much better.

yeah wind would be good! Maybe rain as an area effect.

I'll take a look at it in a few days if nobody else pops up for the task, but I make no promises.

I dunno AF; the weather effects in the Total War series really set the mood in the game. THey were also able to affect the gameplay, which could be an interesting element in itself (tank units get bogged down in the rain while walking units don't, units become more inaccurate, etc.

That being said, I'd much rather aGorm spent his time texturing, so no, no rain! ;)

I was thinking about this the other day, and I think it's not such a good idea if this is hooked to a bit of LUA on a single mappers map.

I think it would be far better if there were a generalised weather system using LUA in Spring, so that any mapper can utilise (or not) the weather system as they want, tweaking weather values to get the effect they are after.

Either way, it's still pretty far down my list.

Any mapper could put the rain in tehre map, its just in a folder called LUAGaia
(or somthing I have no PC right now, my laptop is bust, my pc is bust... and i have no time to reinstall things cause my mates getting marrid next weekend... crazy times)

And you can twek valuse to your hearts content to make it spcific to your map. Only reason I wanted it is because the tree map is SUCH a good glam shot map, it would be nice if it showcased the most advanced effects. I was contempolating releasing a version without rain as well.
