You have an ATI card and are using the open source drivers right? What is your distro?

Intel drivers actually, ubuntu feisty.

:/ Well then I have no idea. I know that this problem occurs with the ATI open source drivers, but is fixed by closed sourced that offer better 3D acceleration.

Can someone give me a hand in figuring out why? Works fine in windows so i would like to find why it doesn't in linux!

Try posting your infolog to see if and errors occur that could point out the problem? Also, maybe more on your system specs?

Well my graphics is a Integrated Intel 954GM Express Chipset, should work since it does in windows, will get an infolog soon and see if anything interesting shows.

At the very least report the issue to intel and your linux distributor.

I have the exact same problem. But...

...yes, I have an ati card with the open source drivers. I mentioned my problem in a thread from a person with the same problem.

What info log do you mean exactly?

I'm guessing you still have an ATI 9250? Well as you said in your post the Official ATI drivers no longer support it. The 9250 is very old, so would I suggest you consider getting a new card. I'm guessing you either have a PCI or AGP slot for your graphics card. If you have a AGP slot then you can get a pretty good card for under £30. However, if you only have PCI slots, its time to get a new computer!

The infolog.txt is should be located in your .spring folder in your home folder. Its basically a log of your last session.

The infolog.txt didn't gave any valuable information. There's was this message though:
You are missing an OpenGL extension needed to use shadowmaps (fragment_program_shadow)
But as far as I can remember I've been having this message as long as I have been playing spring. Even on windows I had this message.

First I thought this bug was related to the ati opensource drivers but since clericvash has an intel card, can it maybe be a spring related bug?

Relative, I know I have an old card :-) . But it works fine for what I do on my computer. I hope I can just solve this problem without buying a new card.

I have exactly the same as you bud, but the colouring is fine in windows so it could be a spring bug...mabye.

I don't think it is a spring bug, its seems to be more likely the limitations of both of your graphics cards and drivers. My ATI card (9800 pro) is supported by the official drivers, thus I don't suffer from this problem. However, this does occur with the open source drivers.

What we really need is someone who knows what they are talking about though. :? Could the shadowmaps be the issue?

Annoying as i am sure it used to work fine, the trees are coloured, units are coloured, just the dam maps are gray!

Hmm, that's the same message as in my infolog. Maybe it does have something to do with those shadows maps?

I've got the same issue. I don't play spring on my laptop anyway because performance is... bad.

imbaczek, can you check your infolog.txt for that shadowmaps error? And do you have a ati card for your laptop, or something else and which drivers are you using?

It's nothing to do with that error you pointed out as i get the same in windows, it's got to be something else.

Anyone know what could be the problem???
