Bad performance

I'm getting 15 FPS with a 8800 GTS. Either hell is freezing over at this very moment, or something's gone wrong... any ideas?

Dual core, perchance?

Turn off threaded optimization for sprign in your settings

Download the latest updates from nvidia.com, international specific sites are usually out of date as nvidias terrible at updating their websites.

http://www.guru3d.com should have more upto date drivers for vista/xp including optimized drivers for XP.

Also, dynamic water slows 8800 cards down terribly, probably caused by the same glitch thatd raws random lines and garbage in the water when its turned on.

Already got latest optimized nvidia drivers, no dynamic water. Yes I've got dual-core... Ohhhh I think I remember. Dual core's no good for Spring, right? Any way to disable affinity without going into task manager every time?

Can't find that "threaded optimization" thing in the nvidia control panel or rivatuner.

So, should I stop moderating your forum?

Right click on your desktop>Properties>settings>advanced>Graphics Card Name [ Make sure your using classic Nvdia control panel ] > Performance and Quality settings> Threaded optimazation.

I appreciate you moderating my forum, but I haven't got any time to really do anything there right now. Need to at least get Spring working properly (10+ FPS would be nice!) before I can even start modding at all.

The threaded optimization option just isn't there. I've been reading up on it and a lot of people don't have the option for some reason, despite having dual core CPUs... Maybe if I had the "classic" control panel it'd show, but I have the ghey new one and no option to go back as far as I can tell. I'll see if there's a way to go back to the classic one.

I believe neddie was making a pun on "threaded optimization.."

I have a program called "SetAffinity" or something that automatically sets the affinity to one core so you dont need to load up task manager every time. But I can't seem to find the website for it now.

It was a pun, actually. Amazed someone got it, I thought it rather obscure.

Click the advanced button under settings in display properties, find your graphics card specific tab (mine is called GeForce 6800 Ultra e.g.). Click that and there should be something called Control Panel User Interface. If you click that you should be able to switch back to the old style control panel.

I had the same peoblem, it only turned up after i updated my nvidia drivers a couplke of versions ago, but the amd duel core patch sorted it out.... i've never had to set affinity.

I think it's solved now. Performance still isn't what IMO it should be, but it's well above playable. 86 FPS where I used to get 35 is still a pretty good increase.

Not sure which specific fix is increasing performance, I tried so many. Most likely it's the registry tweak suggested in one of the nvidia changelogs.

registry tweak?

Yassir. Lemme see...

Here: http://download.nvidia.com/Windows/93.7 ... _Notes.pdf

Do a search for "intermittent", it will bring you to the right section. I "think" it's what solved it for me, but it could easily be something else.

hmm, the latest XP drivers are 158.24 or 160.3

Yeah I realize... it still works though. Seemingly.

Sadly now I cant select individual program profiles in control panel as it crashes after inserting that regkey and crashes even after its removed =(

Yeah... must be the regkey at fault for an entirely unrelated problem...
