Movie File problems...

I can't play any movie files.. Windows Media player won't even open up windows movie files! I don't know what is going on, it just opens up, the screen is black and I have so much lag, its like being on a 300 mhz computer, running XP with 64 mb of RAM! Pure slowdown, almost enough to make you need to restart.. Real Player, quicktime, VLC, none of em work, and ditto Windows Media Player's actions...
Anybody else had similar problems and fixed em?

Furries, definitely furries.
Remove that piece of crap player called WMP and use a decent player, such as MPC, VLC etc. If the issue still occures, uh, then try updating your codecs. I've never had such issues honestly.
http://www.cccp-project.net - good codec pack and it comes with MPC and VLC

if it's not just windows media player, then it could be that your decoding chain is broken
try this program:
http://www.headbands.com/gspot/
open an video file with it, it will analyze if you have the proper codecs & so on
on the bottom part of the window there are few numered buttons, when you press them it will try to assemble a decoding chain of filters to decode audio & video, showing the virtual path of filters wich are used, you can also get a render preview
the report might help you debugging the issue
