I finished nwn, SoU and HotU and i am .. out of words

Since i was without Internet, i thought i would spend some time with Neverwinter Nights. I played nwn, the oficial campaign, then the expansion Shadows of Undertide (SoU) and, finally the expansion Hordes of the Underdark (HotU). Now, with a complete view of all nwn, i don't have words to express myself fully.

The game:
The game itself is very, very good! Perfect, almost. The only problem i can think of has been the lack of beeing able to watch the movies (linux)(and a lack of installer is unimportant, really). Artwork > engine with good grafics.

Oficial Campaign:
The oficial campaing is quite good. (to the end, it losses a little of it's shine, though)

SoU:
Then, i played SoU. At first, i became somewhat disapointed, it didn't seemed as good as the oficial campain (a woman apears that is a follower of a organization that fights evil? Pfff!). But it turned out to be quite good, especially as soon as i hit the 2├âÔÇÜ├é┬║ chapter (i think it is called interlude). It's new feeling, ambience, was quite pleasent. Let me point how important a music is, it was very good and suited.

HotU:
Then, i played HotU. Now this is where i started to become out of words to express how good it felt. HotU is absolutely, positively .. great, awesome!
First, it allowed me to carry my wizard from SoU, allowing me to progress to high levels and to continue my beloved character.
Second, it was very captivating, the development of everything was quite good. I mean, the way we start as some recognition but how it develops into big things.
Third, it was quite big. Gave me plenty of time of fun.

HotU started nicely, with it's first chapter. The ending of the first chapter was very nice. The character in question was quite fun.
But then, then the second chapter arrived. This is where the great majesty begin. It was truly majestic, mithical. It was truly a mithical journey through Underdark. I swear that i have never had fear of any race before but, after the dificulties i had in chapter 1, i really went there afraid of the drow and the duergar. Also, the henchmens in there are very interesting, i especially like the stile of the tiefling. Let me say, again, how important good music is. The music of chapter 2 is perfect to it's seting, that mithical journey in Underdark. And the music of the battles .. /drools. And the ending of chapter 2? Dam, i have never been so excited about anything in a game: ├âÔÇÜ├é┬½Ho, boy! Ho, boy! Ho, boy!├âÔÇÜ├é┬╗ - Wail of the Banshee - ├âÔÇÜ├é┬½Iiiiihaaaa! Muhahahahah!!!!├âÔÇÜ├é┬╗. Nwn:HotU-chapter 2 is the most interesting thing i ever remember playing (i am 29 years old).
Then, the third chapter. Very good too, nice surprises, god stuff with special enfasis on the epicness (it could only ocur in the outer planes...), the sleeping man and the contact with the "Blood Wars".
The only problem was that .. it ended. At least, it gave a little closing with those .. Cutscenes(?), making it not end abruptely and bringing some closure. That is important too.

NWN is probably the best game i have ever played, NWN:HotU, specifically, is .... dam! The packs of Total Annihitation+BT+CC and Neverwinter Nights+SoU+HotU are the best buys i have ever buyed.

If you liked neverwinternights, move on to the baldurs gate and icewind dale games, nwn is like baldurs gate lite.

sorry for assuming you haven't played them I just figure you would've shouted: not as good as bg2! a few times in the review if you had :P

You mean"move back" instead of "move on"? :P

Anyway, no i haven't played Baldur's Gate, so you aren't completely incorrect. Although i did tried it once a long time ago. Maybe it is better and, since it is older, maybe it runs fine in wine. I will give it a try. Although, i seem to remember it beeing too much heavy on talk between characters...

But, keep in mind that the greatest magical journey was specifically in NWN:SotU, not really in NWN itself. Have you played that expansion?

Play Planescape: Torment!

It's probebly the best of all these DnD games I've ever played. NWN and BG are all well and good, but Planescape is the only game that allows you to argue someone out of exsistence.

I've never came around to finish any of NWN's campaigns, instead I was playing some custom endless game module and I took advantage of the PRC pack. In the end I was a katana-dualwielding Samurai (23), Weapon-master (7) and Tempest (10). 8)

Same for me. Endless Nights IV + PRC 3.1 = endless fun.
As for NWN2, it's just a very different game. NWN1 was about your main character, NWN2 is about your party, and it doesn't feel the same. The official campaing is a lot better than OC of NWN1 (without expansions at least), though.

Some of the party members in NWN2 are cu-razy. Like that bard. Why the hell does he join your party? He just kinda does...very strange.

Oh and the Neeska character annoys me. She's just a lamer rip off of Anna, my favorite character in Planescape. She doesn't even have a tail, for gods sake.

Grumble...grumble.

I absolutely couldn't play any of the Bioware/Black Isle/Whatever RPGs.

Planescape Torment was an exception cause it was really cool until about half way through where I got sick of it as well.

NWN was actually the worst of them in my opinion, though I never got past the first 15minutes of gameplay, so I don't know if the story/gameplay 'picks up' at some point.

How can you get sick of Torment? That's just silly.

I don't think I was so much sick of it as I was disappointed how few areas there ended up being in the game. I was expecting a huge world because of the premise of having all the dimensions, and then all of a sudden my whole world map was already cleared.

Then I got up to the bit where you have to make a portal in the morgue or something and just stopped playing

Planescape torment lets a character with high agility choose "<Break their neck>" as a conversation option. that was mad cool.

I also remember a bit where you have to convince someone to quit a death cult, so you kill yourself in front of them to scare them out of it.

Ahh right I played EN3 and EN4.
Okay I'm a lousy cheater because I changed the amount of developement points in the java character generator to a certain value so you could, no, had to start with 18 points in all stats. :P

Planescape Torment felt like BG/IWD meets Fallout. Was very entertaining till a certain point where I lost interest in it in favor of something else.

Well, there's always Cave Story, or Ur-Quan Masters.

After many afternoons, mne and my mate have almost made it through Baldur's Gate in multiplayer... (I already compleated a few times in single, but multiplayer is just so much more fun.) IT RULES.

No I just need a new laptop so we can go through Baldur's Gate 2...

NWN was good... but just can't touch the originals.

Whoa, Istach, you were like fifteen minuts from the end of the game! Er...fifteen to thirty...maybe an hour, depending on how fast you can read/fight.

Well Torment will remain my favoret becuase I love it's setting, plot and, expecially, dialouge.

Mmm...dialouge...

Well, starting with NWN2 patch 1.03, she does have a tail... :)
