Fixing shadows and such

Ok... This may be a huge job, I dont know. But this needs fixing.

Image

Basicly... alpha (which is kinda important for trees...) does not work properly, as in shadows it has no effect. The whole face casts a shadow.

No maybe casting shadows with teh alpha is to much to ask, I dont know, but it would be nice If it could be fixed, or atleast give us an option to say wether the faces with alpha should cast a shadow or not. Becasue in teh case of the trees, Id think not casting a shadow at all would be better in this case if it can't be totaly fixed.

Second thing... features that dont apear dont cast shadows, which is fine for small things, but big freekin trees... Well it looks daft.

This problem of course also affects maps with large buildings, and stuff.

Anyone want to make a patch?

(Also... while there at it can tehy fix teh alpha in water reflections? Only that also looks realy nasty!!)

I know this is probablie a big job, but if you dont ask you'll never get so i thought Id try!

(PS and those trees arnt even half the size of the ones I want... :P )

I might look into the alpha issue at some time, seen as spring's default trees have thir shadows rendered correctly.

no promises on when, mind.

Wicked! :-) The more things that get fixed the more likly I am to release the tree map. I think the default trees also render in water correctly, so maybe its a conected bug? Maybe you can fix to birds with one stone.

This is just me testing stuff for when I make the tree map. Those trees are just a practace moddle, the final ones will need taller trunks to get the sort of tree I want.
I just figured I I showed waht could be if someone fixed things that someone would be more likly to fix them...

Check the recent SVN log for Tobi's commits.

They've written a new shadow shader, which I believe fixes this.

Not all issues are resolved though, but I've seen enough shadow code for a while ;-)

That makes me tempted to actually turn on shadows next spring version.
Does this work for units as well?

I don't think there are any units with transparency in their textures?

Yhe... I use it in SWSpring to... so there are!

And lots of my features are starting to now aswell.

Anyone know if theres a way I can get a build with this in befor release? (Unless your gona release like in the next few days anyway...)

I did try downloading some "nigtly build thing" and sticking it in the spring folder, but It was a no go, and I could not see an obvios answer...

I realy want to see what my trees are like with decent relections and shadows. (PS... this did fix refelctions att he same time right? PLEASE tell me thats the case.)
