Perhaps true, but I would argue that AA is closer to what Cavedog intended the gameplay to be
Yes, I think AA is like OTA + selected 3rd party units that add more robustness to the game. Hell, even if it has departed a bit from OTA I like it a lot in its current form and get irritated when too many changes happen.

In all honesty, I think patching needs to be more infrequent. People don't really give each version enough time to explored before suggesting/launching radical changes.

Less is more in my opinion. AA is already getting a bit too much stuff in it (although I still like it), and I don't want it to get much more bloated.

Bah, AA may not be much like OTA, but I think its much better in that regard.

When I really stareted getting involved in OTA, was when Uberhack came out and started making sensible changes to basic units.

Missle towers for dedicated Antiair, Beam lasers, extra units and better balence than OTA offered.

Uberhack was the bomb, and AA is pretty much built off UH, because it plays alot like it.

TBH, who the hell wants OTA anymore?
Gimme AA and I'm good

Someday this will get in MTR:
Is it posiible to do something about hovercrafts?
L2 or i dunno what. Give ARM a EMG hover maybe? Just, you know, do somethin`! for the difference. or a Janus type hover. Add more variety.

btw games are all arm atm, core lost its adavantage now when arm got too strong vehicles (panther, bulldog are too good). Cores adv kbots are quite useless comapred to arms too.

I think improving cores adv veh a bit could balance em. Or reduce arm's vehicle sheer power.

My name suggestion is "Terminate Them", nice abbreviation and tells you what it's about ;).

If you insist on Abolition you could make the story something like "The Kernel General created an army of slave robots and the Branch General didn't like that so he created an army of minimum wage robots to fight that slavery!".

I support original hovercraft and a slight tweak of Adv. Vehicles or Kbots for Core... possibly a new L2 unit that can crush those walls that only L3 can pass now...

Why did the flash/panther actually get buffed.... they were fine in 2.22 ....

And please don't change the name in something silly, just keep it. Fix flash/panther and voila balance is back!

Give Banishers a HLT or something to make them usefull (and balanced against the panther)

Banishers are mav killers interestingly enough.

I guess he doesn't like being the odd man out who still uses OTA content extensively in his mod and since he's remodeling all units anyway he can just as well make them different so they are no longer TA derivatives.

If the progression from the current TA-based AA content to the new models and whatnot is a smooth morph then i dont understand why you would not keep it all under the same name.

Personally i like the idea of dumping the AA name and turning AA into somethign else. Caydr has mentioned that he would like a wider of variety of mods to be played in Spring. Abolishing the dominating AA trademark and heading down another creative path will be a good way to achieve this.

That's great, but leave the current AA up for download and pursue that different creative path under a new name (Abolition) and as a separate project.

Personally I think it is a good idea to destroy AA by turning it into something else very different. As every good businessman knows, when you have a product so popular that it dominates the competition, you should change it drastically so it no longer resembles its previous self.

well if he decides to make new mod, someone else should continue to develop AA, i am prepared to help too. (can tweak fbi files and provide hosting).

AA wont die. :!:

A cosmetic change does not spell the end of AA.

:-) Granted. If AA was a business then this move would not make any sence. It'd be like coke/maccas suddendly decideing to can production, or oil companies suddenly thinking they'd try something else for a change. Obviously these things are not going to change in a hurry becasue the prime motivator is money, but would we be better off for it if for some mysterious reason they did?

But, and i can only pretend to understand the motivation, if the goal includes helping to foster a community that is rich in its (commonly played) mod diversity. Then this move is a makes a lot of sense.

Leaving AA, in its current state, still available for download is a good idea. If anything it'd provide a constant and high benchmark for Abolishion. I would council leaving all key (before dramatic changes) versions in an archive. if only to leave a evolutionary timeline.
