Designating a meeting area using zones (i?) will make all your dogs rush there, you dont need a table.

In fact i once used this method to order my wardogs to clean out a chasm, its very effective for moving them around.

Set one of your dwarves close to the invading thief, preferably one with some kind of weapon-like tool (Axes, picks) to military service and tell then to station there. I once did that and the thief was dead before I could watch the battle :)

Spam stone crafts and make sure only 1 dwarf is set to do stonecrafting in labours. That way he'll get legendary quickly and crafts will be worth more. A couple of bins full of *sexy stone crafts* will be worth 1k easily...

Lol.

In your situation i'da started a new fortress and buy 7 wardogs and assign one to each of them.

I dont really remember becuase i havent played the new versions much; does a dwarf still eventually arrive with an anvil??

And makesure you have an appraiser of some sorts becuase thats the only way you can trade and know the value of things.

And assign someone to be an animal trainer and make that dog pen thing and then train some war dogs

Yup, that's what did it. The depot is just the color of whatever you build it out of.

any ideas of what to do with platnium nuggets and magnetite?

Magnetite is an iron ore - get some smelted and you can make some iron and steel, perfect for weapons and armor. Platinum isn't useful for weapons or armor, but it's very high value, so some platinum statues or furniture are a great way to increase the value of a room.

what are blocks and how do you make them?

Re: DWARF FORTRESS

Stone blocks are carved from raw stone at a mason's workshop. They can be used to build higher quality stuff, and some things (like pumps and wells) require them instead of raw stone.

You can also make blocks from raw wood, metal and glass.

Wow this thread has had alot evolution from the first original post..

Who here has actually just faught off every seige with dwarves and no traps?

It'd be great once some things like instruments start to have some purpose. Like legendary musicians would greatly motivate dwarves into battle or into work. Or they could host concerts and dwarves/humans/elves from all the world would come and pay lots and lots of goods.
