Honestly it would make a good side in Absolute Annihilation, or with TLL. If it was added to XTA I would actually be disappointed - I left XTA behind a long time ago, and it remains the only major mod I haven't played online for three months.
just cuz you dont like or cant play xta, dosnt mean others feel the same.
still, xta is pure and balanced. chuck it into the AA broth. enough wrongs make a.. well.. just as wrong, but at least its shiny for the noobs.

Imho, XTA is a simple, fun, sensible version of TA.... marred by having a horrifically n00b-abusive early-game. Face it - doesn't matter how good the game gets, if it chews up n00bs and spits them out 3 minutes into gameplay, nobody's gonna give a hoot.... and since new factions make everyone into a noob, XTA isn't exactly the ideal platform for experimenting.

i think the biggest hurdle that exists is that both XTA and AA have been contiously tweaked so that the two sides are evenly matched. To suddenly throw in a third side is gonna... well lets just say u might wanna bring a helmet.
Now starting with TLL and Talon makes way more sense since you can balance them against each other right from the beginning. And hell i wouldn't mind seeing Rhyoss in their too or Joined Tribe though i can't them anywhere on the internet

XTA is no more balanced than any of the other major mods, with the possible exception of Final Frontier, and the failure of the development community to admit this in conjunction with the general lack of new players drove me away. I personally would rather see Talon where work to balance it will occur and players will experiment with it, rather than where it will be unplayed, and that of course leads to a possible list from best to worst compatible of OTA content mods. TLL, Rhyoss, Xect, Mynn, AA, KuroTA and then XTA, followed by possibly BOTA, through nobody could consider that matchup.
And AA is hardly shiny. Indeed, it is possibly the least attractive mod visually in Spring.
Anyway, I'll elaborate this in my article on the community resistance and weak growth. While it won't be happy, it will be factual.
My personal vote remains Talon + TLL.

actually, XTA is damn well near perfectly balanced now. you might want to say, actually play it properly, before judging it. there is no OP unit and only 3-4 underP units.
and XTA early game was horrific in the 7.0 days.. zippers abound.
but 8.1 is really good.. no more missle spam, no more zipper rush.
its pretty freindly early game, the main reason its difficult is that
everyone who plays it is a vet so for noobs its a hard start.

Well, I haven't tried 8.1, so maybe I'll give it another shake soon... I was just seriously turned off by the 7.x version. It was abusive.

The latest version of the third-party Talon race is out! Adding over 130 units to the third-party units, new explosions, new weapons, and new interface, this one may very will be the final version in terms of unit composition and tech tree. But Talon still needs YOUR help, download the latest version in this thread
http://www.tauniverse.com/forum/showthread.php?t=35992, and post your suggestions on how to make Talon even better!
NOTE: THIS VERSION IS FOR THE TOTAL ANNIHILATION CAVE DOG ENGINE, NOT SPRING, IT WILL NOT WORK WITH SPRING, DON'T EVEN WHINE, THIS IS FOR ALL SPRING USERS WHO STILL HAVE TA THAT WANT TO TRY OUT TALON BEFORE ITS RELEASED FOR SPRING, OR GET A FEEL FOR IT.
MAKE SURE YOU LEAVE COMMENTS FOR THEREGISTEREDONE OTHERWISE THIS WAS ALL IN VAIN, THX A BUNCH, NORUAS...

I'm sure i could release it in 10 minutes, but half of the sides are shaded black with color, and it dosent look good in spring, and 3d0 builder is evil for re texturing. and a complete convert would not work correctly for spring engine and those additions and such.[/img]

So... why are you announcing this here then? You're basically telling us that Talon is vaporware- it's in an even less-complete state than Xect vs. Mynn

... and that's just the stuff that's wrong with the 3DOs. Now, converting all of the GAFs over to Spring's format isn't really too bad- it'd just take a quick Photoshop batch conversion, and using 3DO Drycleaner on all the models, then creating reflection maps where appropriate.
But that's just scratching the surface- there are a lot've things that don't translate in a 1:1 fashion, or are entirely irrelevant in a Spring game, or can be major-ly improved if you actually understand how to get the most out of Spring. Trust me, I've been dealing with this lately, with my current project- the graphics problems are just a minor issue

Reflection maps would help those metal textures a lot, but otherwise, it's looking good

I dunno how to apply them since my computer cant even do reflections!
