It's played more than any map period. No if you would read you would realize why I said that. Steve, stop being a tard. It's not about jealousy. No REAL map maker would ever make a speed metal map. It's a total insult to those of us who spend 15 hours in one sitting on one map just to make sure it's perfect, and then spend 20 more hours making sure everything else is right.
I don't know why you've chosen to be such an asshole lately but it needs to stop. You have always been a real cool guy, but lately you've just been an ass and I wish I knew why.
I'm guessing since you didn't read the reason for it being an insult, you probably didn't read that deleting it was a hypothetical question.
Reading==Ftw
Because i lacks a real texture. Is super deformable (assuming youa re playing SP2, took prolly about 5 minutes to make.
Hell I could make a speedmetal map in about 3 minutes. It's an insult to any mapper who actually tries to make a good map.

No, I read the whole thread, I just cant undersatnd how that map is insulting to you thats all.
Fine you spend 20 hours making a map... well done, just because you spend that much time on a map doesnt means its better than speedmetal does it?
Just because I disagree with you doesn't make me an asshole either.

What the heck does it matter... people have fun playing it, why cant you get your head round the fact some people may prefer a map like this?

What the heck are you talking about? I perfectly understand that some people enjoy it better. That doesn't make it any less of an insult to mapping in general.
Why the heck are you coming after me about something I care so little about?
No ya hev been an ass in general, not jsut disagreeing with me. Disagreeing with me is fine. No one ever seems to agree 100%. In games(not the few with me) you've just been different, and in a lot of ways that comes off as being an ass. This is all on a side note BTW, but I truly do wonder why. You have always been a really great guy, but recently something has changed... Meh, this doesn't belong here. Sorry.

Like I said how is it possibly an insult to you? especially if you care so little about it, thats what I cant understand, and why do you have that attitude towards it, maybe you should be giving qudos to rune crafter who made a simple, enjoyable ( for some ) map, in probably a short space of time.

Mapping insults itself: A map like speedmetal proves that it isn't nessicarily about sitting the most ammount of hours or crafting the most complex heightmap, sometimes you can get a great map simply by lucking out on an addictive gameplay scenario. Hell, blizzard has been making millions on that forumla for years.

well there are maps who look great but aren´t really playable...
than there are maps who just give a border where you have to go and are great...
look at de_dust from counterstrike. its purpose was just a testmap for a game which wasn´t released yet. but look at it lots of people like and play that map.
others like i don´t know maybe produced for a mapping contest haven´t been played at for longer than an hour...
:)

Dust wasn't the first CS map... CS mode was developed long before de mode. I belive dust was the the de mode test map, but it was made by one of the fulltime mappers on the CS team at that point, so it's not really fair to call it a testmap.
I get what you're coming at though, although I'd put it more akin to CS_iceworld. The map is just terribly made, I could put it together in a matter of minutes, yet it's one of the most played maps because it has a simplistic and addictive gameplay style.

nope, they've just got an effective PR works to catapult their games out to the public.
It's like TV, they pander to the lowest common denominator

Blizzard also have humor in their games, the kids love that, look at Star Wars: Episode 1 which is the probably the series bestseller, even though most hardcore fans hate it. It's all about PR and being available to a wide audience, this usually includes kids who togheter with the nerds are the only ones willing to throw out hundreds of dollars on franchise.

i have not said that it was the first map for counterstike.
well i read an interview with the mapper of de_dust. he called it just a testmap for teamfortress2...
compare iceworld with aufe_omme or something like that this map has been before and with more work in it but iceworld is liked more by the players... :)

In fps games there are box maps for aim practice duels etc, nobody thinks they are insults to proper maps. Yes, they've been done in ten minutes. Some even by good mappers.
Couldn't speed metal be seen as such? The gameplay is different from normal anyway.

maybe there should be two lobby's. one where people are allowed to have fun and the other where the 'serious' players game. i don't say play as that might also imply fun. that is located in the other lobby with them.

But only because ít crashes so often you have to load 15 xe9.61beta131.xr5 versions to get it running (if at all)
