Have you tried adding a skybox with more trees on there aGorm? Other than that it looks bare being able to see the edge fo the map.

That and the texture on the back of the walkers could do with some more detail..

We'll be replacing many more models, including the AT-ST, next version ;)

Might not necessarily be that high poly, and Zsinj still has to clean it up and make adjustments so it can be UV wrapped, but yeah. :)

 SWEET
why not make it that high poly? someone recently said that the bottleneck was something else. besides that looks SO good!!! whats the polycount?

2400 quads, which is nearly 5000 triangles. That's the kind of detail you see in FPS games, not for RTS games where a lot of it's going to be missed out. Don't worry, we'll still keep a lot of the detail, it's just things like the underside that will get details reduced. And we're going to keep around a version with all the detail intact just in case ;)

Hey AF

The current status of SWS is as follows:

We are working to complete the final pack for Star Wars Total Annihilation, which is Pack 6, or the Superweapons and Force Users Pack.

This is nearing completion, and once released for SWTA, we will immediately set about porting that over to Spring.

In the meanwhile, we haven't stopped working entirely on SWS. We have fixed the issues which arose from overpowered Battle Droids (a problem stemming from auto-radar targetting in Spring, never an issue in TA), as well as remodelling a number of units. This will likely be released as an 'interim' release between Star Wars 1.0 and the inclusion of the Super Weapons and Force Users pack.

We don't really like releasing minor "incremental" packs, with versions 0.04542b3 to 0.04543b1, preferring to make some major changes/additions before releasing a new pack.

Be patient, as there is definitely work on-going.

I can even give you a few previews on top of my ATST which Gnome posted, just to show that all is not idle on the SWS front.

The Rebel Air Transport (my model)
The Rebel Airborne Repair Ship (my model)
Remodelled B-Wing (model by HawkMan)

(any chance of getting some scans of that article, AF?

As long as the back of the ATST stops looking like a happy face you can throw out as many polys as you want.

Thanks, Alantai. Pretty cool to get some coverage; although it's a shame they didn't link to our Manual, which would make it easier for people to work out how to play...

As for the ATST's back looking like a smiley face; You tell me:

Just a quick update:

SWS is very close to releasing an update version (not a whole new pack), which will just fix the issues regarding droid rushing; but hopefully will include a few new units.

Importantly, we have a large number of models waiting to be textured; but we don't have anyone with the skills to skin a high-poly unit.

We are all used to the old TA style of texturing, and haven't quite got our heads around modern skinning methods.

If you feel you have the skills with which to help us, please contact us, and we would be glad to take you aboard as a team member.

I'm not really sure why people keep saying that starting a game is difficult. It seems easy enough to me - install spring, download the mod, put it in the mods folder, open lobby, click the big red button and follow instructions, then double click on an open SWTA game <_<

The GUI...well, okay. Fair enough. I think its fine, but enough people have said its difficult for me to believe them a little bit.

On topic: hurrah! Looking forward to crushing people with the supersized droids and such =)

Maybe you should put it in an installer and bundle Spring SP with it? I dunno wether people think it was a godo diea with NTAI but ti seems a logical step untill soemone bundles it with spring.

If you do just remember to make startmenu and desktop links.

That article is a good example of why we need to link to the most popular mods on the main taspring.clan-sy.com site. Some newbs might get discouraged when they can't find the mod.

I've changed the community news. Now the latest headlines have been copied and changed so that they're smaller and take up 1/2 lines at most. I've also added a short list of links to mods/AI's
