We're talking setting defaults here. By default, you should be able to set it. It helps to understand how it works, and to have a bit of control. Even if you have to enable it in a menu somewhere (i admit only a pro rushing a bd or something will want manual).

IMO for overdrive, all you need is a colour. Thats all i see when i look at overdrive: how red it is. Numbers for e expenditure, m income, and effeciency rate (though that can be derived fairly easily) would be good too, but they can be behind a tooltip if necessary. You dont need any other representation than the colour though, IMO, thats all you'll see at a glance: anything else is window dressing unless you come up with something really brilliant.
