I admit, their 100-Year Plan is quite sexy

Like the Logo Argh.. well done
Me, i just can´t get the idea out of my head- of spring as a time of the year applied to the background.. just not flowers as usual vegetabel, more something like the flowery arm solarplants from winter to the fireflowers of Artilleryhits in midsummer..
But i guess that would distort & disturb the Logo to much... so i vote for the dark background, but i guess that is one real tempting trap, to have to much pictures on the first page... as roflecopter showed One Bige and not more then 8 small seems a good sollution

Meh, I'm not satisfied yet. I'm screwing around with shaders... I have a fun one coming up... under the sea... going to take a minute to render, tho.

"War Engine"? A War Engine is quite literally an engine, or mechanical device/vessel, used in war; ie a tank, an armoured car, a 100-foot bipedal walker, etc.
It should be Wargame Engine. Otherwise, I love the last one, on the metal landscape. Beats the others hands down.

I liked the lighter one with the red the most, that's a really nice logo (maybe with a better / no subscript).

This took a second, had to post-work it... just having fun here.
Yeah, I thought about "wargame engine"... meh, I'm still thinking it over.
"Wargame" brings with it a lot of connotations I don't want to ascribe to Spring. "Game Engine" is way too vague. There's an old game called The War Engine out there, too, so there are copyright concerns, as well.
Meh, I need a short, snappy slogan that works, I absolutely loathe making that kind of verbiage up, and suck at it
[EDIT]Rattle, click on the pictures, they're not being shown at full size, lol.

"open source game engine"
"open source gaming engine"
Or aegis' "open source RTS engine"

I don't like it, Argh. When I think of spring, I think of a more metallic thing. A patchwork of metal panels on the spring name might look best.

RTS doesn't communicate to people who don't know what that stands for. Granted, the number of people who've never seen that term and are showing up at Spring's site is probably small... hmm.
"Game / gaming" is too vague, imo.
I want something that's a little more vigorous, that sparks people's neurons, makes them say, "hey, this isn't just some lame Open Source project that's probably not even working yet- this is SPRING". I think you guys are too worried about it making semantic sense- we need a slogan that evokes a feeling.
@Decimator:
Well, I was going off of AF's logo colors (er, with the non-under-the-sea one, which was just me screwing around, since I haven't done this kind of art in ages)... it's plastered everywhere else. Meh, if you wanna build me a model like you're describing real quick, I will be more than happy to make some nice shaders and make it look leet, though... I'll do one with a shader, but it'll probably look like crap, frankly, that's going to need to be modeled to look really pro.

How's about "open source tactical strategy"...? Meh... I'll just use "open source rts" for now, unless somebody comes up with something snappier... then I'll do a quickie with a metal-plate shader. Again, it'll probably look like crap, even with postwork, but meh, it's just rendering time.

it's too busy. try focusing more on the words and less on the environment?
also, is this intended to go with roflcopter's design (dunno where, it already looks good) or something else?

I'm having trouble seeing where this logo would appear on the site?
I'd personally prefer the header to be two-dimensional and probably vector based. That way we can run 'moneyshot' images underneath the logo that show off one mod at a time.

Better contrast, using a shader and displacement map to do a quick terrain sim. I still think that the solid-color version works better, tbh.
