JK is also pretty amazing. I thought you said otherside was the worst? Can't both be worst ;)

Got to admit CA is doing some things I didn't expect, but I'll ride it out and stick with it for a while because at least so far, it's the most enjoyable spring game for me. Also the most innovative TAtype game. Personally I think Saktoth has a lot of good ideas, just don't happen to agree with him on the exp-upgrading aspect.

Of course, as for listening - why should he or anyone. I just mumble my own thoughts onto here with no ability/time/patience to meaningfully contribute so pretty much expect to be ignored.

Edit: Sorry for the mistake above, LordMatt said that Otherside was the worst part of CA, you just happened to use the same wording...

So there we have it. We have a competition for being 'the worst part of CA'.

Saktoth does not have nor does he deserve creative control. No individual can claim that over the collective, we all contribute to a whole which is not the vision of any one member, not even the loudest. Smoth, you're too worried about this.

I am not going to waste more time on art that won't get used. I helped tweak the pee wee and it was tossed. I offered to do the fido so that both sides would get a golden unit...

Which, imho, was a friggin' catastrophe. SphereBot is nice, but shouldn't have been used until more k-bots of a similar style were available.

I get the impression the majority of people who comment on CA have never played or spectated in a CA game.

I agree that amphibious units should be more useful. Maybe the amphibious factory could be built on land or water.
Yes, one of the current facs gets amphibs and the old amphib fac gets removed, like planes are now, replacing seaplanes. This is the current thinking.
(submarines would have to be removed, of course)
No.
The best part of CA is quantum, the worst is saktoth.
I love you too smoth. Im not lobbying to get it removed: I think its inconsequential unimportant and silly. Which means it can stay in the game, its not really doing anything or hurting anyone and some people seem to like it, no loss to the project. You can add as many golden units as you like, i dont think it contributes to the game at all and i think its a waste of dev time but knock yourself out.

I speak for myself, though there are others in the dev team that share my views in this and other matters (If we didnt agree on most things, we wouldnt be able to make a game- but they can speak for themselves, too). Vigorous discussion is the only way to reach a consensus and changes to the game deserve scrutiny.

Can we get upgrading solars back? Why was it removed in the first place?

Saktoth has no final say over anything. Nobody has.
If you cant get agreement with him, talk to other CA dev or just commit your model into game and then fight for it later ;-)

Didn't mean removed altogether, just from the amphib fac, as if it could be built on land as I was suggesting, you'd have to have submarines with legs.

Submarines with legs. There's an idea.

Want more factories, not less! :o I honestly believe that all of the current factories, every single one, give too many strategic options.

All land labs give you swarm, riot, artillery, raider, both standard and special constructor, general battle and radar units... Both T1 and T2 air factories give you constructor, fighter, bomber, scout and gunship...

While CA is varied, this means that it is less varied than it could be.

You were talking about splitting the probability tree to provide variety in games... cutting down on labs, and giving existing labs more units, will not do that.

In my opinion a specialist ability such as amphibiousness should require you to purchase a specialist lab, and amphibious units should not be present, at all, in other labs.

similar but differing branches could be done, for example choosing one branch within a faction unlocks units while locking you out of other units, and perhaps changing their function slightly.

An example would be CCGenerals zero hour with the 3 versions of each faction specializing.

self bump

I play core mostly. When it comes to teching up to t2 I mostly use kbots even if the map is laid out for vehicles. I dont know but the t2 core vehicles kind of suck. They all must stand still to fire. Even the Reaper hesitates to shot when it or the target is moving. I have trouble fighting t1 units such as stumpies when I use core t2 vehicles. What they need is a fast riot tank with a laser or something.

That is so fucking cool, but.... probably not all that compatible with the rest of your troops.

Can it jump up cliffs and the like? Cause that would make lethal.

Its just flat out free buildpower. You should have to pay for buildpower, you should have to purchase constructors, not get it free with every solar panel.

Build power is a resource, too.
the-middleman wrote:I dont know but the t2 core vehicles kind of suck.
They're incredibly heavy, there isnt much cheap stuff in the fac. But there are some very good units in there. The Croc is a lighter (but still like 2x a ravager...) versatile unit that not bad to make as the first thing outta the fac. The Goliath is good vs t1, if you can afford it. Reaper, Artillery, Banishers etc are all good if mixed with lighter units.

Ill admit its not a very viable start fac, its best when the game has bogged down a bit and you need something really heavy.

But morphing units costs resources too. Where is the problem?
I just liked it because upgrading solars late game was a good alternative to building fusions.

Free buildpower. You dont need workers.

Morphing is only availiable where morphed unit has to be placed on same spot (geos, mexes) or where its a reward for high XP.
