The level of quality your dining room is directly proportional to how morbid and grotesque your engravings are.

My fortress has got a fuckload of engravings of a "Steel shoe". The steel shoe is an artifact my now legendary armorer made with my first bars of steel, worth about 150,000. Half of the other artifacts have a picture of it too.

That's how awesome DF is: you can have 200 dwarves worshipping a shoe.

I never had an artifact. the only time a dwarf was possessed he messed up and then forgot about it.

Remove [baby_snatcher] from the goblins in the entity_default.txt, and:
[PROGRESS_TRIGGER_POPULATION:X]
[PROGRESS_TRIGGER_PRODUCTION:X]
[PROGRESS_TRIGGER_TRADE:X]
set all that from default 2 to 1. You'll get a fully fledged siege within the first few seasons.
Up [frequency:X] in the creature files of any difficult creature, and at least one per biome. And for the mega beasts as well.

It's awesome.

Yeah, I made similar changes. Then to keep from going insane I gave the goblins natural armor and took away all their clothes. Less stuff to pick up after sieges = happy player.

I'll start playing again after my exams are done.

I hope the new version comes soon - some tasty things: more detailed world gen (including civs building roads/tunnels, and some rudimentary inter-species warfare) the ability to turn down the amount of detail saved during world gen to make it easier on low-end machines, the ability to build above ground walls/floors in lines and rectangle (Line of walls here built with 20 granite instead of wall here, granite, wall here, granite, wall here, granite...), the ability to dump things from the (d)esignate menu, ect.

Yay! Development is back on track! He took a break over the weekend. New version should be released within the month.

I read somewhere that he intends to what some point add intense and realistic interation between diferent people, and it will even be possible to send scouting or attacking parties out of your fortress and into the world :)
