I'm not sure if my comp counts as uber to most of you or something but...
7600GT, 3800+ 64bit, 1 gig dual channel ram (ddr2).
So far, I have yet to have supcom slow down on me. Believe me, I've played some big big games. So far I'm pretty sure I have barely exceeded 1200 units on screen. I imagine it would start to really put the hurt on right around 1500 or so. But meh, we'll see. I'm sure there is something in supcom that my comp won't like.

Your computer must be made of l33t, since your one of the few who claim to actually be able to play the game without a negative framerate
KDR_11k wrote:Now tell me why it runs like crap on my Athlon 64 3000+ and GeForce 6800. Granted, it handles lag better than Spring (which goes completely nuts once your FPS drop) but it's still not nice to see it chug along as a sloooooow pace.
What is your definition of “runs like crap”, constant 2Fps? Mine runs at 10-11 for the most part, which is actually quite playable.
dz0 wrote:Ok, so we can establish that you don't have SupCom and never played, since you are backtracking now. My suggestion is to open your mouth only when you have some experience to base your comment on.
Arrogant and stupid... *Golf Clap*
dz0 wrote:SupCom will tax ANY system you get.
Yet another brilliant revelation.
dz0 wrote:did you even read my post about quadcore, 8gb of ram, and crossfire/xt1950s slowing down in heated battle?
Its a pointless note. If you have the settings up high enough on any game, it will slow down.
dz0 wrote:What, do you want people to buy some rig nasa is using to play these games? maybe i would, if the game was any good.
I couldn't care less what people feel like buying. Honestly, I really don't know how to get the point across any more clearly. Newer games on old hardware... Do low framerates actually surprise anyone?

I dont have 8GB of ram and I only have dual core, yet supcom runs at fluidic framerates on my PC with settings at max, 16x AA, unit limit maxed out and 5 players. The only issues I've had are when the nvidia driver crashes because they have buggy vista beta drivers, not supcoms fault because it happens in spring too.

Did NASA even upgrade to 80386s yet? I heard they were buying Atari 2600s lately in order to use their CPUs.
I'm the only person buying Atari 2600s these days.

The point is that supcom runs slow on a lot of new hardware as well, but apparently not for some (including yours).
That said, I think this discussion is really useless even if points get across...

10FPS seems correct for that. Still annoyingly slow and happens before much is going on, maybe 50 units per player at most.

No, why? That doesn't change anything. Microwaving, on the other hand...

Replace rocket with social and nuke with ALEX and you're getting there.

lol, I lived at 8-10 FPS on Oblivion, the only time it sucked was when I needed to make a 45* angle turn or more....
I got meh 6600GT OC and now I can go at 30 FPS on average, I won't go into details though...
SupCom ain't too bad, its just a little slower than Oblivion, but I can play it okay...
My 3200+ (like 3.2 ghz or something) runs fine, single core, 64 bit, and I got 512 of ddr and 512 of ddr2... >.>

Doom vs spring is equally as pointless of comparison as spring to supcom. Anyone should be able to grasp the concept, that older games with poor graphics will perform better than a new game with more demanding graphics. The graphics in TA Spring are not anything groundbreaking, revolutionary, or new by any means. Rather, the graphics in spring is adequate, effective, but again... by no means is it modern or cutting edge.
Save that Spring graphism are moderns! There's reflection, lots of texture overlay, self-illumination map, colored ambient lighting, nice particle engine, extremely watery water, etc...
Of course you may have to try some other Spring mod than a poor TA conversion to see that.
Beside the bloom tell me what does the SupCom graphic engine has that the Spring graphic engine doesn't have?
If someone truely feels its too much to pay for a new gaming pc every few years, buy a nintendo whee, or go outside and ride a bike... or whatever it is the outside-people do.
Or you could choose to play well optimised games.

Mode is relative. Spring graphics are never going to be up to par with modern day games becuase there's not enough people working on Spring graphics or Spring in general compared to "pro" graphics. Afte seeing SupCom (on a mediocre PC mind you), I can't accept Spring's graphics as "modern". Maybe "passable", the same way TA's graphics were "passable" in 2000/2001.
But then agian i never care much about graphics for fun, just laying it out like it is...
