Just do not join into speedmetal -games.

I do not like speedmetal because the games played on it ends lame way, it gives a wrong image about TAspring and units built by infinite resources lags my PC which has only 256MB RAM.

Hmmm.

Looknig at the serverlist, I don't see this HUGE OVERFLOWING!!!1 of Speedmetal maps you say there is. I counted two at this moment (SpeedWater and SpeedmetalDuo). Perhaps it's the slow time.

What I do see, however, is an abundance of passworded servers. It's not very helpful to a newbie like me who just wants to play for a bit.

Instead of a day without nspeedmetal, you could propose make a lobby room without speedmetal.

what about compstomp.de, are they obliged to follow the same open-rules as the main server? Everytime the main server goes down, so will the speedmetal

I think many people are missing an important point:

Do you really the type of person who enjoys playing speedmetal over and over again on your team on a regular map?

IMO speedmetal acts as a nice filter for those players who are only interested in porcing and seeing the biggest baddest units.

In my opinion, speedemetal is a good thing, even though i absolutly hate how it corrupts players.

For one, all of the newbs and otherwise bad players will continue to play speedmetal. If we banned it, even for a day they would join normal games. You dont want somebody trying to krogoth rush you on a map like altered divide, do you? They have absolutly no idea of how to play correctly. They would get absolutly owned without the infinate resources in speedmetal.

Also, i find that speedmetal players are the most insulting. They don't listen to their teammates, and are only interested in porcing and building krogoths and all the nice shiny really big units.

I like to play it occasionally, it is more of a sandbox type of map. In small amounts I like it, too much and it gets borring.

Eventually they will realize there is more to life then speedmetal and will grow up. Until then, leave them in there sad, speedmetal world.

I can do Speedmetal on ANY map. Its called

.cheat

.nocost.

Volia, and now I can do churazy things like: Build a huge army of Krogoths. Test out a new mod. See who would win a huge army of Zaku-2's or a slightly larger army of Zaku-2's with rocket launchers!

look guys ffs
ALL maps have infinate resources!!!
SM DOES have a type of gameplay. I personally do not like it but it has it NONE THE LESS. k?

I think the problem lies less with the ressources and more with the layout, a single choke point doesn't allow a large variety of tactics.

Hence we have JJ and his speedmetal varients (Speedmetal Duo, Speedwater and such)

I never quite understood this sentiment. If some people prefer the 'extreme masses' gameplay speedmetal offers, which is, I agree, less stratgic, it still is a personal choice, and just because you have a different taste regarding this, does not give you a valid reason to restrict other peoples enjoyment.
And that's another point. This game's sole purpose is to give pleasure to the players and creators of it. In this light it is downright sily to want to force somebody to use it in a way he or she enjoys less or not at all.

Stop taking the thing so serious. There are casual gamers and those who take it mighty serious.

I discussed this topic a little in my TAUniverse article: Metal Heck is for Newbies. There's nothing wrong with metal maps. It's just another style of play.
It's completely different from a game Gods Of War - instead of being presented with a limited amount of resources and having to budget them carefully, you're given a blank cheque and have to spend it as quickly as possible.
The reason Speedmetal isn't as enjoyable as Metal Heck however is it's a choke point map. Porc happy maps are not a good thing for people to play too much of. They tend to progress in a very linear, predictable manner. Newbies always gravitate towards repetitive maps in strategy games, and even FPS strategy games. Counter Strike was so dominated by DE_DUST (a choke point map) at one point you could rarely find a server not running it.

I wish JJ would try making a version of the map with much, much wider ramps. Speedwater was an improvement, but Speedmetal Duo didn't really do anything other than make the map more suited to 4vs4.

this isn't a metal map. Its an infinite resource porcfest. Metal maps can be okay. this is just a game wherre you rush nukes, build annis and wait for the enmy to leave.

Instead of playing Speedmetal, have all the players click their mice as fast as they can for two hours while watching a video loop of explosions. Whichever side gets the most mouse clicks winss, and you can use the cpu cycles you save on Folding@home or some other worthy project.

But seriously... Speedmetal games attract a certain type of player and this changes the community. It is perfectly reasonable to limit the maps the client will allow to preserve or shape the community.

And Speedmetal should be the first map to go.

After trying speedmetal once (to see how badly it breaks CvC) I was left wondering WTF is happening. Why do units gradually lose hitpoints? And even more, why does that not happen to the laser drone?

wait so the community is not allowed to change?
And you sure know how the community should be shaped. You know what? Let's only allow XTA on Delta Siege. And that's it. People would learn the perfect gameplay! They will be good at sea battles and land skirmrishes! Yes lets do this. Get the rid of mod support and more than one map! And everyone could totally use the same super advanced tactic. Yeah!

or how about a censorship counsil, that decides what kind of community it is! Let's call it the "Counsil of Free Choice" or something (I'm sure the counsil can come up with something cleverer)

This is what's known as a "Straw Man" argument. Since it does not reference my original argument, only a caricature of it, I feel a need to make a only a pretentious, rather than a material response.

Also, more clever, not cleverer. And perfect gameplay, not the perfect gameplay. The article is not necessary.

The reason @I want speedmetal blocked is BECASUE THERE ARE 4 STRIPE PLAYERS WHO CANNOT PLAY REAL GAMES, AND THEREFORE SERIOUSLY RUIN GAMES WITH CRIES OF "WTF WHERES TEH METALS?" "OMFG LEMME GET KROG YOU ASS" AND "OMFG, YOU RUSHED ME WTF YOU HACKER"
