Spring RTS Engine

yes. Some of you really need to grow up. The community is slowly dying because some of you don't know when to:
a) Shut the hell up
b) Stop posting in a thread
c) Leave people alone.

Every time people make me mad, I am less and less likely to help everybody. Spring's community has certain people who go out of their way to make me as mad as possible. This is outrageous. The information I provide, on my own time, is in my head, after all. I didn't HAVE to give it to ANYBODY. Everybody could still be waiting for Smoth or whomever to "figure out how Argh made blahblahblah".

But no... I shared my precious technical knowledge. For free. In a competitive mod scene. Including a few very important items that Maestro didn't put into his manual.

Think, people.

In a Forum where we don't have swear filters, and people are allowed to say the most outrageous, deeply-hurting personal stuff without any consequences, what else am I supposed to do? Be everybody's slave? Walk away?

Screw that! You've gotta play to pay, people. This road goes both ways- I am nobody's doormat. People around here need to understand that people like me help nobody, if we're not treated nicely. It's just that simple.

For those of you who're too stupid to figure it out... um... look, it's just fine to disagree with me- I like a good technical argument, and I don't mind being proven wrong. We've seen that happen over and over again here, and everybody has learned from the experience, nobody has gotten their feelings hurt, etc.

But, make it personal... and gee... I don't care for that much! I don't understand people who even dare to imply that I would intentionally hurt the work of somebody like LathanStanley, or that it was all just motivated by ego. What nonsense! I only entered that thread, and paid attention to it at all, because of the post right above my first one, where I read that Lathan was still using TGAs, which I abandoned months ago, and SJ has stated, emphatically, use one-quarter of the texture space as regular bitmaps, in the Spring engine.

I just wanted to help make Lathan's work BETTER. And what did I get for taking 45 minutes of MY FREE TIME and giving it away?

Flamed by people who should've just stayed the hell out, that's what.

So, from now on... screw it. I see no reason to be nice to a community that isn't nice to me, and where people routinely get away with that kind of personal attack.

But if you have issues with him, that doesn't mean that the entire spring community is evil or something, or does it?

It does.

This isn't the first time I've been personally attacked. This isn't the third, or the fourth, or the tenth time. If you need to be reminded, I can drag up thread after thread after thread, where trolls have been allowed to get away with this crap.

Do you honestly think that I have gotten THIS ANGRY over a one-time thing? And nobody does anything about it!

The last place I was at... the moderators would've come down like God's own wrath, if it was implied that I was intentionally "shitting on" somebody's art! Good grief people... how much of my time, caring and effort do I have to give away, before people understand that I mean no harm to anybody, and just want to be treated with respect and civility?

Argh, this whole community is really, really young in terms of how long its been around. People have strong opinions, some of them get voiced in inappropriate ways. It happens mate.

But I really think that the worst thing you could do at this point is just walk away, because it shows a lack of understanding and compassion. There's idiots everywhere on these forums (hell i've been one of them on many occassions!)

But to abandon everyone else who really does appreciate your work and like it - that's not fair.

The internet is not a perfect place - Spring's community certainly isn't. But there are a lot better ways to work through problems then resigning

Oh, and holw cow, are you talking about Forboding's statement to "leave LathanStanley alone" or whatever?

As Easily seen in lathans comparisons, the dds textures a much less detailed than the TGA ones.

THis all could have been avoided if you had not claimed the work as your own, and had offered the dds package as a lower quality version.

But no, you had to go on a long tirade about how LS doesn't know what the hell he's doing etc etc etc, when lathan is right!. The tga is MUCH more detailed than the DDS, there is no denying that, yet here you are trying to argue about a huge performance hit that features are gonna have when spammed all over the map... None of this stuff is gonna get spammed...

BTW have you EVER played Vegan Canyons? It has a SHITLOAD of high poly features and by comparison my machine SUCKS, yet I still get 60 fps on that map.
