Funky post-processing blurry-glow!
Lense flares!
can we even do half of these as shaders?

Problem is that shaders often define the grafic appearance of a game - so they would be game specific most of the time.

It's still a wise thing to do, if there's time.
Having a palette of shaders from which to choose could save duplication of effort among the mod dev crews.

He speaks the truth. That was the only straight-up comparison pic I could find.
I changed the example pics. Now we're comparing "High-detail shaders" to "Ultra-low detail," which, AFAICS, just disables all the shaders. Before it was "Very high detail."

no blur, subtle lighting, glimmer and glow effects are subtle but very much there...

Giving games the ability to choose the default set of shaders they would use through lua should solve that.
