We want to promote the mods, just to answer that question.
And wowly that looks awesome!
Could "unit packs" be replaced with "mods" though in the text top-left? That's how they're called usually.

Beautiful design, nice large attention-grabbing download banner, slick logo placement, great mod showcasing below. I approve!

Wow, Roflcopter owned the Hell out of the Springpage-
+ 1000 for epic win and the direction things are going..
But now another Request... can we have a "All your Files belong to us" Downloadeverything - that includes all Mods ? That way every broadband connected fellow has the chance to join every game..

the CA guys' torrent manager when it's done will do fine as that... the installer already included many maps and games anyways.

That's really nice, RoflCopter. I love the way the design works, never really considered a triangular focus like that

I'm still working on my entry, but meh, that's a very good start!

roflcopter wins.
It'd be nice if each mod could submit a flying "header" like the big commander (one per mod), which the page randomly cycles through. The header would have to have some sort of requirements to be filled (ie: must contrast with the spring logo [which should be a seperate image floating above the header image, not part o fit], content must be right aligned, shouldn't be too busy, etc).

The issue of mods wishing to distance themselves from spring completely (ie, different lobby server / lobbies) - should those be promoted on the first page?
(not saying some are, but it's certainly a possibility that needs to be considered)

They should because it makes spring more attractive as an engine

That would be fine is Spring was a commercial project and Spring would get more money from selling licenses to game developers.
Spring isn't though, and the goal here is to attract more players into the main pool, yeah?

I'm still working on concept ideas here, trying to find a knockout image for the header
For now, here's one of the concepts I've been messing with:

Thank you, thank you!

You can turn that into an actual page if you want, downloading
this file (Component parts requested by
SinbadEV) may help you.

NOW THIS THREAD NEEDS MOAR IMAGES!
edit: I like it Argh, but maybe another color could work better (try changing the blue background?).

Yeah, I'm reworking it, to actually use a darker background, and I got rid of the stuff trailing off the logo, it distracts from the title too much. The real issue is figuring out what I wanna do with the background... originally I tried a weird "mechanical garden" idea, playing with the connotations of the word "spring"- growth, life, a mechanical store of energy, the end of winter... it just never quite worked, though, the scenes kept being too noisy to have a good impact, so I'm back to screwing with simpler ideas

Mechanical garden... I know of a "future garden":
http://rappcollins.com/
(tbh I think that's the most amazing website I found so far. Amazing technical design - it's flash, but it doesn't rape the CPU at all, yet it is just
so good)

I really like how this is coming along, and I'm glad to see that people like my crazy suggestion that can reduce space and help advertise mods. :D

Ok, another go... different renderer, bunch of shader stuff, but subtle, toned down the color of the reflective area. Gotta move that text up, this is too deep, but meh, a little closer to what I wanted.
