The penis is a weapon of mass destruction.
AP and AT do, however, need to be differentiated.

They are differentiated.
"Tank Destroyers" have only Armour-Piercing.
"Assault Guns" and "Tanks" have both.
Everything else has only High-Explosive.
If you need pictographs in order to learn that then you need to be purged.

I certainly hope 1944 offers a little more depth and complexity then that

Anyhoo, no, there will be no people in boxes for infantry buildpics. Like I said before, infantry buildpics will be a picture of the infantry weapon superimposed over a backgound of the country's flag... ie, a PPsh submachinegun over the flag of the USSR, or a Kar 98K Rifle over the German flag.

It'd be worth making some clear hue changes, I think, so that they aren't easily confuseable.

There's really no room to change hues without them becoming completely different from what they should be. Infact, the British one there (on the left) is quite off-hue as it is and it's really bothering me... in any case, they're quite different. Big white star; brown roof; almost blank.

Actually I thought it was quite good

Really? I thought it was far too "bright" to be accurate... But, eh, wouldn't be the first time your countrymen shocked me with their illogic.
Anyway, here's a shot of all current Soviet units!!!

I think it'd be pretty tough to tell the british one from the russian one, but it's your call.
I think most of your tanks could use with a bit more clear teamcolouring; but I understand your reluctance to do so, because it ruins the realistic look of the units.

you could always adjust the saturation, making one look a bit more faded.
