you have to understand, for some reason, jokes in a thread, which has already served it's purpose and is otherwise idle are terribly offensive. Posting them, in some people's minds is a justification for attacks on your personality and your manner of posting. Such unadulterated trolling(read posting of jokes) surely cannot be tolerated in this community(sarcasm), who's reaction to such humor looks like the following:
