I think there is a misunderstanding lathan, this behavior is atypical for boirunner, something on this forum or in his life has caused this outburst. Or we are simply misunderstanding him. I have faith that there is some misunderstanding somewhere.

I respect boirunner, and I too believe that there is a subtext which I can't isolate.

oh my god the amount of pretentiousness in here is staggering.
in case you didn't notice, people are actually agreeing with me. it's only smoth, fanger and a few of their friends who disagreed with the first post.
but no. it must be that my girlfriend left me, or that i don't understand english, or something like that. how possibly else could i have a different opinion than the forum superstars.
in your ideal world, spring is a platform where a diversity of RTS games are played, that have little resemblance to each other. an active community supports dozens of different games, and lots of them are very good.
in reality, spring is a way to play an enhanced version of total annihilation. some other mods have been made for it, but nobody plays them.
some of you people have not accepted that, and that makes other people (like me) a bit pissed off. and so i ranted about it some.
anyway, it's getting stupid. i guess the thread should be closed.

Hmmm...you mean, like the majority of the non-TA modders?

I can accept your first point, that if we want more players, we should get a base from where the ashes have fallen of the game it was based off of, or attract players ourselves by campaigning outside of Spring.
I refuse to accept the fact that Spring engine is meant for TA only and to make TA itself look better. This is false... Look at ANY game... Without modifications to the games, they would still look fuck ugly. If Caydr doesn't add a reflective map, the engine sure as fuck won't do it either.
It all comes down to modders and their games. Look at my post, it had a lot of sarcasm... (The one in mods, I think) Features were added.. and more would be if people said "Alright, lets get something else BESIDES total annihilation to look good.
I and the rest of the moders/modders consistantly try to get new features added so we can push TA farther away, while keeping TA based mods able to play.

This thread is a travesty, I'm tired of talking about things endlessly, someone needs to actually do something realistic at some point, or at least plan something, because debating it isnt helping.

smoth wrote:Boirunner wrote:but like most people, i have limited time to play computer games, and yes, i'll stick to the one i came for, thanks.
There is nothing wrong with that but myself and several others want people to realize and acknowledge that spring is more then just TA engine. I will not stop until people accept and acknowledge that fact.
Everone knows that. They dont play other mods because they like TA more, and it may even be true that some people never tried other mods, but you wont get em to try by whining at em or their mods (I even think that will make things worse) but by making the other mods atractive enough to defeat their lazyness...

Indeed, I'm going mod some more, and when I come across something I need, I'll put in a feature request
Goodbai.

Hey smoth, you remember a year ago I was all like "They're mods!" And you were like "They're games!" And I was like "Here's list of why they're still mods!"
I looked up my post today, and come next version, like 95% of the things I listed will be no longer true.
My opinion - they were mods. Some still are. Some will be games, worthy of a box and a 39.99 price tag at gamespot. None are yet, but looking at all the progress in the last year, I don't know that it'll take that much longer.

oh hell yeah, hence my push for the new differentiation. It is beginning to become time for the differentiation from mod to game in spring. A lot of the games were nothing more then ports from TA mods. In a year's time we have moved well past that. With LUA in the next version of Spring, OH MY GOD we are going to see some GREAT new features.

This is a very interesting, and somewhat serious thread. And now I, a Spring XTA/BA player of 1 week, would like to stick my foot into the ring.
I came to Spring because I want to play TA (actually because I want to play SupCon) but I can├â┬ó├óÔÇÜ┬¼├óÔÇ×┬ót for technical and market reasons (neither game is sold where I live). It is my impression, like Boirunner says, that the majority of this community plays it for the same reason. I also believe that mod makers should not focus ONLY on the TA Spring community to promote their mods because a sizable percentage (if not the majority) are mainly interested in TA.
Boirunner├â┬ó├óÔÇÜ┬¼├óÔÇ×┬ós point can be summed up here:
in your ideal world, spring is a platform where a diversity of RTS games are played, that have little resemblance to each other. an active community supports dozens of different games, and lots of them are very good.
in reality, spring is a way to play an enhanced version of total annihilation. some other mods have been made for it, but nobody plays them.
some of you people have not accepted that, and that makes other people (like me) a bit pissed off. and so i ranted about it some.
I think the first paragraph is the goal of Spring. The second paragraph is true as an ├â┬ó├óÔÇÜ┬¼├àÔÇ£on the ground├â┬ó├óÔÇÜ┬¼

The only problem with trying to get Japanese on Smoth's Gundam RTS train is that they probebly don't speak english...
But if they do, that'd be pretty neat.

Ogami_ito, it is my understanding that gundam RTS would be viewed as fan art, I never intend on selling the mod and I intend on continueing it for free. At the very least as far as Bandai should be concerned, someone is running a free promotion campaign for their title gundam

.
*edit* as a note, in the history of moding there have been more well known gundam mods that never even had a release and bandai has not even so much as said hi!*
However, to buy an add is out of the question. I have spent over half a grand in art books and what ever other reference material I can get. I am pretty in the red already as it is.
There is a Gundam Online mmorpg, that is more a long the line of gundam fan's interest. Sadly most gundam fans are uninterested in a strategy game.
