I find this game fun, but I end up tiring up... maybe I need a defined objective from start :)
Fragment from the changelog:
I had my first pocket world that ended with all the sites intact (except for the kobolds -- they never survive). There was one of each type of site, and the dwarves managed to conquer the goblins immediately and install a new ruler, then they did the same with the elves around the year 11. Goblins and elves became used to the dwarven way of life and even sent some of their citizens back to the capital. The humans were never at war with the dwarves, and a few hundred years passed in peace. The dwarves even built a tunnel between their capital fortress and the dark tower. There are currently no rebellions or revolts or longing for the past, so even when the dwarven overlords died and elves and goblins took the leadership position of the dwarven site entities that controlled their homes, they continued to pay (abstract) tribute to the capital and do things the dwarven way. This will certainly change as I add more for them to do, although after 150 years of being ruled by the dwarves, maybe some of them should remain satisfied. Religions are all passed down through the parents though, so the elves were still worshipping the forest spirit, and the goblins were worshipping the long-deceased demon. I suppose that could play a role in their decisions, along with whatever else.
Its quite hard to believe they do all this alone :)

There's always something to do in DF :D
I'm currently playing a map with lots of metals, flux, a _very_ convenient underground magma pipe and
a giant eagle taking every opportunity to slaughter dwarves. And I love it!
My objective now is to get some steel-plated marksdwarf heroes to kick some giant eagle ass.

YA :) Thats why one must set himself an objective before starting a sandbox match. I used to set myself the objective of getting 200 dwarves, but thats easy while taking loads of time, so sort of boring... think I will start out by killing ever living thing that is not an dwarf of the map :)

My objectives are almost always trying to build some obscene structure that makes sieging the fort ultimately futile irrelevant of how many dudes the enemy brings.

I like pushing them back with an elite army. Battles in DF can be surprisingly tactical.
One third of my current fortress' population is currently ensigned in the military. That's about 30 dwarves. The other 60-ish dwarves are busy making steel plate armor for my army

That sounds like fun :)
I just discovered that there is a huge chasm filled with creatures full of members near my fortress.... that should make my plight more interesting :)

Chasms are really deep hell holes :) too inclinated for the creatures to climb, the only real treat are gigant bats that might fly out of it, but I have only seen one. Also it seens that the overall terrain around the fortress is to inclinated for climbing, so I dont think I will have problems with globins either :)
I have been thinking in how im gonna get down there to kill those creatures considering the chasm geograph... I have been thinking about throwing stuff down there... is there any way to make my dwarfes throw stuff off ledges?

Thanks for the info. Just found out that there is a river running above and to the side of the chasm... :) Can water currents push stuff? Because the chasm is really deep, it will take forever to fill it... but if I be able to wash away the creatures throwing water on the right spots my life will be easier :)

Yes, water can push stuff... needs to be fairly deep or pressurized though.

Actually, quite the opposite. Very pressurized 7/7 water will just "appear" in big chunks over several tiles, pushing objects short distances only (only one push- from 0/7 to 7/7). However, a square going from 5/7 full to 6/7 full has a pretty good chance to shove most light objects and creatures, so a tile filling will push object some distance (4/7 - chance to push - 5/7 - chance to push - 6/7 - chance to push - 7/7) and a channel filled with an oscillating amount of water (waves, basically) will push the most.

Hum... ok, thanks for the info. I think the river is too small to get that much water level on the small ledges the creatures are on... will have to fill up :) Now there is a problem: The chasm does not ends inside my territory, what means that if water that leaves my territory doesnt haves its trajetory simulated outside it and just vanishes instead I will not be able to fill it up... is it simulated or not?
Edit: I am an idiot

Just discovered that chasms are bottomless, meaning that not matter how much water I throw in it wont fill up. Strangely fog comes out of it as water pours in...

Just discovered that chasms are bottomless, meaning that not matter how much water I throw in it wont fill up. Strangely fog comes out of it as water pours in...
I thought I read somewhere that eventually chasms will fill... For all intents and purposes to the game they are bottomless... Items thrown in can never be retreived, and they are a square of empty space at the lowest possible Z level... but in the case of a constant flow of water they do have a maximum capacity. I could be wrong though on that.

In 2d DF they could be 'nuked', a red line would go down the middle and no more critters would come out. Even then, you can just keep dumping stuff down.
I dont think you can even nuke chasms in 3d DF.

You can't, but then again, you don't need to anymore because they don't spawn an infinite amount of critters anymore - they only have as many enemies in them as you can see on the unit screen.
