NOOOOO! All is lost! Only Smoth (or MR. D (or Argh (or- ah, just forget it))) can save us now!

it'd the resurrection of Command engine: Cremuss Engine
but, seriously, he did say he was interested in cinematics...
Maybe a short movie?

Damn. Id just recruited him to work on CA more closely. He was working on some really kick-arse ships.
I was wondering where he went. Come back Crem we miss you.
You're in contact with him, Hoi? Could you give some kind of (any kind of) information? Can we at least get his abandoned WIP's? All his .obj files he has up there fuse into a solid immovable lump in Upspring but perhaps they can be salvaged.

I'll zip the obj's when I get home.

As i said, .objs come as big meshed together blocks when imported into upspring. 3do's dont do that. Im not sure if they can be seperated using another program or not, i suppose it might be possible.

He was working on this awesome core ship before he disappeared...

Hi
Oh cmon guys, this is not the end of the world
Well, I'm sorry to leave the spring project especially as I joined CA team some days before my "disappearance" but when you enjoy no more working for something or someone, it's definitly better to stop.
I don't say that I don't like spring, I just say that modeling and texturing all this sci-fi stuff has gone as fast as it was comed (particularly when you are happy to see your models done and horrified as you see how it's looking crap when textures are done

)
This combined with other stuff IRL lead me to something else than Spring. It's pretty hard to explain all that stuff. Actually I'm 18 years old, living in France, had my 'baccalaur├â┬®at' on paste June and basicly this year I'm a kind of self thaught person :D. I'm just waiting to find my way IRL. I'm thinking to lead my computer graphic passion to professionnal way but 3D school is so expansive... I'm so stressed actually about my compromise futur that I need answer fast. Answer that I don't think I'll find if I stay in spring project. Everything is actually a bit confused in my head, I need time to decide and time is going to fast
Anyway, everything is not lost. You still have a lot of models from me.
It just need textures
I said Saktoth yesterday that you don't have to take care about license with those models so feel free to use them. Maybe I will do some new stuff for spring in 2-3 months, but not now sorry
PS : Saktoth, you definitly need to find 3d artist. As new graphics seems to bet the most important part of CA (and ota copyright

), you have to take it more seriously IMO. Me for Arm and Mr.D for Core was, and still be impossible, with all respect I have for Mr.D, CA and you Saktoth :)
Post on linuxgraphics, 3d forums, blenderartist etc.. I'm sure you can have some greats artists. I don't think I'm the guy you definitly need ^^

Cremuss, Ive talked to people about this, and here is a set of tips which if followed religiously will get you into proffesional games design:
- Know what you want to do
- Get the skills
- Build a portfolio of work showing those skills
- Finish and polish that portfolio of work
- Apply for jobs and talk enthusiastically about it
A finished and rock solid handful of pieces of highly skilled work will be worth more than a degree or qualification as it will prove you have the skills and means to do whats needed and get on with it.
This si true of game artists modelers coders programmers etc Demonstrate you can do it, and that you can do it well, and that you can actually finish it, and be prepared to talk about it.
All of this can be done on your home computer without a flashy college or university, though in some cases a university will help with the skills.
You have a good range of models and textures. Make a mini mod out of your units just for your portfolio and you'll have a rock solid piece of work. Add some more work non spring related, concept sketches etc package it up nicely and apply for places.

Going into collage for graphical artist certainly has it's pro and cons.
First off, What AF says is certainly true. A Good portfolio showing you're awesome is more important than a collage degree, but those professionals will teach you stuff you wouldn't gain otherwise. It's not the practical stuff that matters. I.E. the classes 3D modeling aren't the most important. It's the classes round it. Reasoning why you do what you should do. the rules of the artist and how you should break them (and when not to). Is really makes you see what differs a professional and an amateur.
The con of course, next to the financial aspect, is that you lose time for personal project like mad. I've done some models for Spring before I went into collage. Since then I haven't found the time. Unless you can combine the two. A guy named IceQuick did some levels and GUI design for Spring while being a school project. (Or you spend your evenings doing it.)
Don't let collage smother your greater goal, but do your best to find your way into it. I wouldn't want to trade it for anything else in the world.
I'm sure you will find your way in this messy world of awesome.
PS. your models are jawdropping. And the texture even better. You sure show me where I should be, and I'm in collage

We'll miss you! Hopefully you'll come back after attaining your several master and doctorate degrees

and
then be able to work with Mr. D to rid us of OTA IP!
Also, just wondering, did you do any work on the FODB? if so, could you please release the source? I really wanted it to succeed
So long, and thanks for all the models!

wow, this is absolutely great work, very impressive.
one critique (it's too late now, isn't it?): the wind gen fans do provide only little contact surface to wind, they should be normal to winds direction, not tangential.
yeah, it's really marginal, how to criticize so much of teh awsomeness xD

Crem, your texture work has become some of the best in Spring IMO. Your AA ship is utterly beautiful.
Sad to see you go, but good luck in your future endevours! Thank you for the models, they're gorgeous, ill be adapting the texture file from the AA ship to try and texture your other ships in the same style.
Here it is in game.

The Red Eyes are on all of mr.d's models, basic. They're a bit more pronounced here but I think they make a nice feature. I changed the colours and they dont match Mr.d's models perfectly. Metal has a bit too much pink, though you see it matches he sides of the banisher and gator. The eyes arent exactly the right shade of red. The teamcolour is also probably a tad dark, ill have to fix all that.

Beautiful ship, nice job Cremuss and Sak!
PS: Please! I am begging! Dump all your WIP's in one place, so could finish them! they're awesome models, and it'd be a shame for them to go to waste. Especially, imo, this one:

Please! I am begging! release the .obj/.blend!

Odd. You're right, he hasnt released that one. I thought everything had an .obj/.blend file.
Still, there is more than enough here to keep us texturing and getting it in game for quite some time.
