I kinda want to make a historical/fantasy mod for spring. I saw that myth video and thought, "its such a shame that there aren't really that many fantasy mods in spring." (The Cursed is pretty neat, but its not exactly classical fantasy; even it has some techno-mechanical stuff in it.)

So I cooked up some weapons and a base for a human male last night. Hopefully I can split my time up enough for this to be a feasible project :| (if anybody wants to get together and work on it that would be pretty neat :-) )

Suggestions? Tips? Feature requests?

ME. Right here. Why do you think I joined The Cursed :P only to be letdown by the United Earth Space Marine Squads :? If we could somehow drug azaremoth and brainwash him to combine his awesome zombie army of darkness with your medieval dudes, throw in some elves and dragons, we're in business!

This is MTR but does melee work yet in spring? It'd be disappointing to have a historical/fantasy mod without melee weapons or shields...

They do look nice though, good work maackey

The Jacks in CA have spears, and they work quite well.

The Worm in KP had melee for a long time and The Cursed uses a melee unit as its main unit. Still have quite a long range though.

agorm: Banjo Kazooie 4?

you can reduce the polycount of any of these weapons down to 50-100 without a loss in quality

My thoughts exactly - Spring needs a fantasy mod

People keep saying "it can't be done" because X feature is missing, but perhaps if somebody really tried the devs would add that feature. Anyway, I'm happy to offer what little help I can (ever drop raises the ocean as Al Gore would say :P)

Thanks. I am not sure if the melee tag really does work, as the Jack actually uses a laser to attack. But the animation conveys the damage, and tbh that is all you really need. I am probably going to spend a long time on the animation, to get everything looking nice.

I know I wasted a couple polies on a few things (namely the hammer, battleaxe, bow, and greatsword) but I'd like to have them looking reasonably decent at a closer distance. 50-100 is just too low imo. (If you can make some decent replications that low I would love to see them and emulate how to do it)

@ mk: only just recently :P

@ wilbefast: i would gladly appreciate any help i can get. Heck, at the moment I'm pretty strained for ideas even. I can do models, textures, animations, unit files, etc... but if you'd like to help out in any of those areas that would be cool too.

Anyway, I've made a bit more: An oriental farm, dragon cannon, katana

You wasted polies on all of them except for the human model, unless you intend to use them in a first/third person game which I kind of doubt.

No need to drug me :-) If you come up with something worthy I'll offer you help and some units maackey. I love fantasy games too! The "space marines" (they still don't have a proper name) also will be fantasy styled to some extend. Expect angels and priests too.

KaiserJ: Nice textures. I don`t know if it is intended but the proportions don`t look right to me though. The legs seem to be too short. Moreover I would hide the shoulders in all models like you did in the first two.

KaiserJ: what mod are those models for?

Sweet

I was hoping you'd put an interesting spin on the old space-marine formula (Aliens 2 was a loooong time ago): like a sort of sci-fi heaven vs hell.

Maybe if only lot are called the Cursed the other lot could be the Blessed or something? The Anointed? There's a whole bunch of synonyms, one of them is bound to stick:

The sanctified, adored, consecrated, divine, enthroned, exalted, glorified, hallowed, holy, inviolable, redeemed, resurrected, revered, rewarded, sacred...

They look like a zombie mime army. Kaiser, are they scripted? May I devour them?

Edit: Just checked out your gallery. Two of them have computer backpacks. WHY? Why does every hope of fantasy mod get tainted by such... technology. First Aza then you. I'm never opening my heart again.

What about maackey's? Looks pretty hardcore to me. Think it's historic for the moment though. There's activity over at the TA:K portification thread... I think.
Trouble is, Spring is kind of made for tanks and robots. Fantasy is fighting against the stream. You'd have to be completely out of your mind to try and make a fantasy mod

Fantasy and science fiction are not diametrically opposed. They both depend on a complete suspension of reality, the problem is that high or hard science fiction usually makes a vacuous claim to feasibility or futuristic realism, and defines the greater genre, rather than low or soft science fiction which merely claims to tell a story augmented by "SCIENCE!"

@ azaramoth: never having created an animation script myself, i was a bit wary about how everything would stick together. certainly the vertices of the shoulder areas could be manipulated to hide the seam more; as could the verts of the hips be moved to fix the proportions. i'll try it later today.

@ wilbe : its for my dr. manhattan road warrior mod! joking, they were a "just for fun" project yesterday, if anyone wants them they are welcome.

@ car : wasn't sure exactly what i was making to be honest, they started out as pink as lobsters. the backpack could easily be deleted from the model; everything shares the same skin. let me take a whack at fixing the proportions... not sure what to do with the backpack, i could reskin it as something else... what do medieval people carry in backpacks anyways, a shoeshine kit? silk from the orient? computers? wait not computers. abacus? you pick, let me know.
